******* Official Football Manager 14 Thread *******

Real Madrid have offered £30m for Van Persie. I refused an earlier offer for him from Madrid and Van Persie was a bit miffed. I had to promise to win the Champions League this coming season to keep him at United. Madrid made a new offer of £25m for him which I bumped to £30m which they accepted. Van Persie has agreed a deal and will leave once I OK the deal.

I don't want to lose him as he scored 15 goals from 17 appearances last season at an average of 7.55 and 21 goals from 27 appearances at an average of 7.72 the season before but as he's 32 and on £185k a week with a match highest earner clause, £30m is something I can't really turn down.

I have found out that Aguero is a bit unsettled at City and is upset that they didn't list him and wants to leave to play in the Champions League. City finished 5th in the league last season. I was trying to unsettle Aguero for a next summer transfer in anticipation of not winning the Champions League and Van Persie leaving as a result but it seems I need a replacement now. If I can't persuade City to sell me Aguero despite having £50m to spend, who else can I buy to suitably replace Van Persie? I have a difference of £261k a week in wages and when Van Persie's £185k is saved I could up the transfer budget a bit to give me more money, however I'll need to keep a decent amount of wages set aside to pay Van Persie's replacement.

Costa? He has a buyout clause of around £32,000,000 in the first couple of seasons.

I always look for the future, so Barbossa and Zivkovic (Richario) are wonderful young players.

He's at Barcelona with a £161m buyout fee. :D Don't know how I missed that news.

Got Zivkovic but he's not ready yet to be the main striker. Made a £34m bid for Lewandowski. I doubt City will let me have Aguero, plus he's a lot shorter than Van Persie and I kind of want a tall striker. I'll check Barbossa out.

Did a similar players search on Van Persie and got Balotelli as one of the results. :D

I like Balo, really like him (helps that a friend knows him in real life :D). Barbossa is a boss. I love him. His eyebrows :D. He's very much a poacher, which is sort of how I play my forwards.

I like creative players behind the forward, maybe one more traditional 'winger' in the 4-2-3-1 I play, but I like balls played through for the forward, I like crosses on the floor or cut back (not to say I'm against crossing for a header, but I've always found with United, Rooney, Van Persie and Welbeck do much better with the ball on the floor, yes even Welbz), Mata is just wonderful in these roles.

Lewandowski is a monster by the way, Costa is great if you can get him cheap first couple of seasons (£32,000,000 = relative) and Aguero is a monster too. I never really sign 'big' names unless I really want a marquee signing or they're very unhappy. Always build for the future, so tend to avoid buying players over 25/26.

What about Aleksander Mitrovic?
Scouting him. He's at Anderlecht and worth £5.75m so could be worth a punt. He's obviously got lower attributes than Van Persie, being 12 years younger, but he is slower and I wonder if he'll bridge the gap by the time he's 32. :p

Yeah I played RVP as a poacher. Worked well for me.

I play a 4-2-3-1 as in 2 MCs, 3 men across the AML/AMC/AMR and a single striker. I rotate Rooney and Mata in the AMC position with Januzaj on the left. I rotated him with Kagawa but I sold him for lack of consistency. Was hoping to sign Griezmann as his replacement but he went to AC Milan so I guess I'll have to play Welbeck as Januzaj's deputy until I can find another AML. Valencia and Zaha do for me in AMR however Madrid made an offer for Valencia before coming in for Van Persie. Valencia was a bit miffed at being kept but I fobbed him off with the offer didn't match his value excuse. :cool: He's worth £13m and the offer was for £15m!! :D If Madrid want him now they've got Van Persie they can offer me £25m+ as far as I'm concerned.

The annoying thing about Van Persie leaving is that he was my captain, penalty and corner taker. Literally two game days ago I confirmed him as my captain with Fletcher as vice-captain. :D Going to have to make Rooney captain now I guess. :p

Lewandowski is the one I want, Aguero would be brilliant but I fear too expensive for a cross-City transfer. Costa is too expensive at Barcelona now. With Lewandowski being 26 he's young enough for me to sign him without thinking I'm paying too much for an older player. :)

Salomon Rondon has been a solid reliable striker for me. Not incredible technically but with 17 finishing and 'shoots with power' he scores some right screamers!

I play a similar way to be honest Marc.

Rooney / Welbeck / Barbossa / Zivkovic / Wilson are my forwards and play a poacher type role, maybe advanced forward type sometimes and they are pretty much ranked accordingly.

AML = Reus / Kagawa
AMC = Mata / Januzaj
AMR = Oxlade-Chamberlain / Zaha

General back ups for those three positions = Zivkovic (Andrija), Meyer (fast taking over as first choice in the AMC role with Mata AMR) and Vadala.

I'm quite pleased with the squad, but still feel a little lacking of real experienced quality in the middle and would like to move on a forward, but I really like them all :(.

So you kept Kagawa and got Reus in. How much did you pay for Reus and is he worth it? I also see you got rid of Valencia and got Oxlade-Chamberlain in. I think Zaha has a fair bit of potential but is quite poor on intelligence/decisions which makes me think he'll be a good deputy but not quite good enough all round to be the first choice AMR.

Kevin Volland, Dominco Berardo and Alberto Cerri are a few that have come good on the saves I've had on this years.

Anyone tried Donis Avdijaj? Has very good stats for his age and would love hear how people have got on with him.

Cerri is good, he's constantly farmed out on loan with me though :).

£29,500,000 for Reus, £125,000 a week.

He's started 10 league games for me so far this season, 2 goals, 2 assists, 1 PoM and an average rating of 7.27. He's played 5 European games; 1 goal, 4 assists, 1 PoM and an average rating of 7.28.

He also played in the Community Shield, 1 goal, 1 assist, PoM and a rating of 8.80 :).

Cracking so far.

I like Kagawa, but he was a little hit and miss at times, Nani was too hit and miss, and Valencia (while pretty much brilliant all the time) I just found a bit too ... one dimensional, I like to be able to rotate and move players about to suit the opposition. Ox is coming on really well though, Zaha does seem a bit hit and miss, but he's been more hit so far for me. Had a couple of absolutely storming games so it was down to him or Valencia, Zaha is younger, cheaper, more potential and can play on either wing or up top.

Valencia left for £15,000,000 to AS Monaco FC :), they also took Vidic and Evra on free's :).

Ewandro has done very well for me on my Cardiff save. Fantastic little player:

Signed for £6m in the 2014-15 season.

What is even more amazing is that Paris Saint-Germain paid £20,000,000 for Fellaini and pay him £105,000 a week :eek:!

Absolutely nuts. He turned Tottenham down too, who actually offered more :mad:.

Thanks. Will get them checked out. :)

Not heard of him. Will check him out and see what he's like on my game.

Sounds good. Will look at him as an AML contender.

Yep. Kagawa was too inconsistent. Nani was really, really inconsistent and Valencia, whilst fairly consistent, doesn't do much. What he does, he does very well mind.

Not heard of that name. Will have to scold my scouts!

Marc, if you don't have me on Steam add me iTummy.
Done. :)
