******* Official Football Manager 14 Thread *******

In old FM's (CM's maybe?) you got news about big transfers, you never seem to hear about them on this FM. Can you set what news you receive? A player went for 50m on my current save and I had no idea until I flukily found him and looked at his history.

Yes I know what you mean. But I believe there is a section for this and it's a menu up top. I think it is transfer news or something. But it's not that intuitive as it stands. Hopefully FM2015 will address this. Also check your subscriber options. You may find you can have it as an option in there. There are LOTS of choices.

Cheers, I'll have a skeg.

In other news I'm still doing the City save, the CL keeps aluding me and I feel I can't give in until I've won it. That and the bloody Community Shield are the two thngs I haven't won.

In 2016 now, Spain appointed me as manager. The qualifying group has been easy so far. 5 games, 5 wins.

My City team apart from Lewandowski who I just bought is full of 21/22 year olds I'm trying to just keep and see how they turn out, should be amazing. It's hard not to spend though when you're given a 200m kitty.

Made a bid for Lars Bender. The git wants a £4.1m signing on fee! :D

Benfica wanted £98m for Romero. Made a new offer and they said £85m second time round. Offered £30m up front with £10 over 24 months. Let's see what they say. Evra gone for £1m to Stade Reims for £1m and me paying £52k a week of his contract until end of next season. Fellaini going to Juventus for £26m. :)

Benfica are now saying £76m up front and £12m over 24 months for Romero.

Made a bid for Griezmann but he's signed for AC Milan. Any suggestions for a left winger to partner Januzaj? I'm in July 2015. Going to sell off Kagawa if I can get a decent offer.

Lars Bender has signed for £25m!!

I bought him knowing he's WC in the future but it was hard fitting him at CM and CAM with other options there. Toure is 34 and played CDM so I thought he could replace him, he's been amazing this season.

If I can sell Cleverley as well as Fellaini and perhaps ditch one of Carrick/Fletcher (unless I keep them for experience/tutoring) I could give Hughes game time. :)

Worth it to sell Kagawa? He's not consistent enough for me yet he must be quite good for merchandise being Asian.

Great. They might want quite a bit more. Not sure how a player of his quality when as cheap as he did :p
Just signed him for £4.4m. Had a bit of a rubbish debut but that was in a pre-season friendly against Lyon and surrounded by pretty much a 2nd team as a few players are on international duty and most of the rest of the team were quite tired.

With this version game it comes down to how you setup your database settings as well this is why a lot of people never get over the 60% mark.

Now that is very interesting and something I completely overlooked. But surely, it doesn't matter what size database you have. Scouts work irrespective of how you set up the database surely?

Something I have found very recently - as well as telling your chief scout to control scouting make sure you manually add scouting selections. For example, I was informed that I had poor scouting coverage of Mexico and central America. So I told my north American scout to look at Mexico. When I was informed he had finished scouting I then had 100% coverage of Mexico. This also gave me an extra few percent overall coverage. This is the best way to improve your knowledge, that along with coaches.

I took it to mean not so much database size but more individual countries added. I went to add Brazil and found I'd already done that. So I added France, Italy and the MLS. Unfortunately I've a friendly to play so I can't advance the game to see if the scouting knowledge increases or not. However I don't think I'll see an immediate increase because all the leagues I added won't start until the next season begins.

I've found three scouts, both with very high JPA/JPP who've made no reports at all ever!! Going to double check their knowledge of the countries they are currently scouting but I feel I'm going to have to take full control of scouting from my chief scout and perhaps get a squad of scouts to take a country each in a particular region/continent and see if that approach increases both my scouting knowledge of the region but also my overall knowledge.

Oh, I went looking for 5* coaches the other night to complement my current coaches, looking for coaches from countries I don't currently have coaches. I couldn't find any. Is there any point in signing coaches who aren't even 4/4.5* just to increase scouting knowledge? I just see it as wasting money.

I have finally managed to find a formation that works for me at Liverpool, a 4231. In other news, Spain have failed to qualify for the world cup after losing to England in the play offs.

Why would it be cheating? Its an option when you start the game.
Never understood that. It removes part of the challenge of building up a scouting network.

It is an option but it also takes away a huge amount of the game. It's cheating in my book.
Agreed. And you still need scouts to tell you about hidden details such as consistency and injury proneness.

No, it doesn't work like that as far as I am aware. Your database is the only thing that matters - if you have a small one you have less players, if you have a huge advanced one like me, then you have upwards of 100,000 players to choose from. It doesn't matter if you add or remove leagues - the players will still remain. The only difference with adding and removing leagues is that you become part of it, if you follow. You will be able to follow the foreign tournaments etc etc. I only run with the British leagues. Nothing else. I do that for speed purposes and it works fine. I still have a huge/advanced database with 100,000+ players.

That thing with the scouts is strange - do you have worldwide scouting? Do you have a chief scout who manages them? Finally, maybe they haven't managed to find any players - but that seems rather remote. Take control yourself to begin with. Cancel ALL scouting assignments and create new ones so that they go immediately. Then give it time and check their knowledge when they have finished. If they have high adaptability and determination they will keep that knowledge. If they don't then they will lose it.

Right, the next step. Coaches. VITALLY important and at absolutely any level. Don't just go looking for the best, not until you can afford it. Just search for coaches with roughly the attributes you want, from a country you want and hire them for one year. Their knowledge is imperative to your scouting network. When their contract is up you can let them go. But in the mean time, you will have access to their knowledge. See what country you are lacking in, and go hire a coach. Then scouts will appear from that country, and more importantly, players.

Well then, I'm a cheater.

Hate having unseen attributes. It just saves me 1/2 days scouting. I don't really see a problem with it. Still scout them, but at least I can have a general idea of how good they are.
