******* Official Football Manager 14 Thread *******

I started with Concord "The Beach Boys" Rangers in the Skrill South, terrible attendance, no money, awful ground, awful players you know the score.

But a few signings and lost in the playoff final first season,

Promo the next as champions to skill prem.

Avoided relegation from skrill prem by one place and 4 points in the end.

Skill prem champions next season

Back to back promos, 2nd in League 2, just missed out on 1st.

another promotion, league 1 champions, lowest salary in division, 4000 capacity stadium, 1500 average crowd, and won league one! shocking!!! debts!!! but the board keep helping out.

Just about to start the Championship fixtures, and got £60k pw for wages, huge bump up from £20k for last two seasons. Grounds going up to 6k, will I fill it? I doubt it lol. The pitch has never been relaid, can't afford it ;) and its the worst level and the facilities are still the same, the worst!

Had manager of the season in all seasons except the near relegation season and four promotions, 3 league titles in 6 seasons, happy days.

The lack of fans is annoying though, best team in Essex and no one cares. Will wait for the new stadium, hopefully soon (better be named after me!!!) then move on if I can't fill it or get close. There must be something in the DB stopping me from ever being too well followed, I've done the same with Bromley before and done well with attendance, I guess Canvey Island is rather small.

All good fun though.

It takes a fair while to build a decent fan base. I've got the same problem as Dover although I've had 2 good premier league seasons and won the CL and the Capital One.

Look at this guy. I picked him up as a free! Released from PSG. I still can't work out why but look at him. Ridiculous. He's my best player and he was nufink.

Don't worry, still £270m in the transfer kitty, and under budget by £600,000 per week
No. Pls no! TOO MUCH MONEY! You need to make a + from the transfer season and STOLL do well. Only way to play.

P.S. Invest in cheap youth, 15/16/17 year olds (Saville will bew happy :p)

VERY Good. I think I should go up with Portsmouth, but that is much easier than what you are trying to achieve, so well done!

Ohh, Dover! I'll look at him. Thanks.

might not be possible, is it a new ground?

The club is only young so the ground will be too. I will have to invest in a new stadium at some point but obviously until I have the money in the bank the board are not prepared to even offer me the option.

I was very shrewd for several seasons when I was going up through the leagues. That's how I have been able to get so far now. I would only spend the tiniest amounts on players as most were free transfers, like that uber AMC above. As Dover, they had very little money. But I also got very lucky - I got a striker for next to nothing in League 2, developed him and sold him on for a £25 million profit when I reached the BPL. That gave me a formidable grounding and allowed me to speculate when I reached the Premier League.

I also developed my training and youth facilities early. I spent £35 million this season on players, which has bolstered my team no end. I am still using the older English home-growns too, even though they aren't really that good. I think a few may retire next season, so I will have to develop my younger ones. I have a 17 year old world class potential english striker in the reserves who will be home grown in two seasons. Plus 3 other good potential on loan who are trained in nation.

I've signed James Ward-Prowse from Southampton for £25m and spent £37m on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Must have something for players with double-barrelled names! :D

I've sold Zaha to Arsenal for £30m. This was a separate transfer for Oxlade-Chamberlain. I guess that means eventually Oxlade-Chamberlain will have cost me £7m. :p He was a pretty good player but his low decisions, 6, and some other mental attributes were so low as to be pretty impossible to improve to Manchester United levels. Plus in signing Oxlade-Chamberlain I get someone to rival Januzaj at AML.

My midfield consists of Carrick, Fletcher, Powell, Will Hughes, Lucas Romero, Lars Bender and James Ward-Prowse. Carrick is now 34, has 10 for pace and 9 for acceleration. Surprisingly I don't play him much. His contract is up in a few weeks and unless he drastically cuts his wages demands, I'll let him go to get a squad place back. One reason for signing Ward-Prowse and Oxlade-Chamberlain was to try to maintain the number of homegrown players in the squad. Carrick is on £100k a week and is asking £67k a week in a new contract. If he reduces that by a lot I'll keep him to tutor players. In all likelihood Carrick will be going. Fletcher is my squad captain and can still produce the goods. He's 32 and has 2 years on his contract at £88k a week so I think I will let him leave after that. He's useful for tutoring with his high teamwork and work rate attributes and so on.

My quandary is that Spurs have offered £14.25m for Powell. I didn't play him much last season with Romero/Bender/Hughes ahead of him for my formation's 2 MC places. If Carrick leaves, can I risk letting Powell go? I have 7 players for MC. If I let Carrick and Powell go, that's 5 players for 2 places which is 2 for each MC position and a 5th spare in case of injury/suspension.

I've already broken the club record for transfer income, up to £132m in a season from £102m. Accordingly I've also broken the club record for transfer spending, £104m up from £84m. If I do sell Powell for £14.25m that record £132m becomes £146.2m. I can't advance the game until I aye or nay Powell's departure. So do I? I can't see any reason to. I was feeling guilty about not playing Powell this season when Spurs came in with an £11m bid. He's worth £11.25m so I upped the money a bit and Spurs OK'd it and have agreed a deal with Powell.

Hmm, he is home grown right? If so, keep him. I doubt you will find much better at 14.5M, unless you buy a youngster.
He is yes. Just thinking about having 6 players competing for 2 MC places in my formation. I don't think he's good enough to compete with Mata/Rooney/Allione for AMC so I can't really keep him for that position either.

I've got a screenshot of my squad as it is. Will Hughes, Luke Shaw, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Adnan Januzaj would qualify under home grown rules so I could lost Carrick and Powell and use 2 or more of those home grown players to get back to 8 home grown players in my squad. I'm not really bothered about replacing him with a midfielder. I might go for a striker to give Rooney, Morata and Welbeck some competition, having said that though I have Wilson and Zivkovic who could do with some game time.

October 2015 and I've just managed to sign James Rodriguez for £15m. :\
Respect! From Monaco? He's got a £38m minimum release fee in his contact in my game. Did you unsettle him and get him cheap?

Yes from Monaco, and nope I didn't unsettle him. Hadn't even really looked at him as I assumed he'd be way out of reach, but he popped on a scout report as £12-17m estimated costs, so I thought I'd have a bit of that. He'll replace Coutinho, who as good as he has been, will be moved on in January I guess (should get £30m)... not a fan of Coutinho on the wing, and they can't both be playmakers behind the striker, but I'll reassess it when he joins.

Hang on. Coutinho? Are you managing Liverpool?:(

Anyway nice scout find there in terms of estimated costs. :) Did you buy him on account of his performances in the real world? :D
