Bloody work getting in the way of a good saved game. I work from home, and put in a good few hours on Sunday night in order to play all of yesterday... and ended up working from 9am to 1am yesterday instead! I think I need to sort out my priorities a bit more and focus on FM solely.
Anyway, two consecutive promotions with Cambridge and now entering into the fourth season of the game. I actually hate the first season of any save, don't find it interesting, so holidayed it until the end of the first year. Initial progress with Cambridge was slow, almost got sacked and was hovering just around the foot of League Two. Had bought in players to play a proper lower league system. Big centre backs, quick but rubbish wingers and a big man/little man combo up front - serious long ball stuff. It didn't work... and I had to resort to actually playing football. Which has now seen two successive promotions.
Last season was great - it was a case of concede loads, score more. My keeper only kept 4 clean sheets! Was hoping to go up via the play-offs, as I needed the ticket money, but I had a storming run:
Adam Campbell is a great option for a lower league pacey striker, good scoring record:
I've found that from the second season, scoping out the free transfers released from Ligue 1 and 2 in France is great. If you go for them immediately, then they'll likely cost you a £2k a go, but if you leave it until just after the season starts their wage requests plummet, and you can pick up some useful players. For instance, Alex Mendy scored 21 in 29 starts in League One, and was only on £650 per week last season.
Other strong freebies at good value in League Two are the likes of Paul Corry, Marlon Pack, Jamie Ness, etc. Also, Saif Salman is a good free option after a couple of seasons as he's got "good prem midfielder" potential and should got a work permit.
This season I'm pinning my hopes on the regens.
Mine (I think Nilsson is going to be incredible in a few years):
Loans (would love to sign Kolev, but they want £5m for him and my transfer budget in the Championship is less than £100k, and very annoyed that the Belgian is out for three months as he looks like a decent target man, despite the lack of bravery):
