Got tyre and fuel sim off??

I'm not the only one finding it difficult to believe then?

I know Mr. Fantastic is proper quick having raced against him. Thing is though, the Lotus car isn't quicker. Regardless of what you do or how you race.

I'm doing full race weekend. 7 seasons, all aids off, legendary AI and race distance of no less than 50%, Its a challenge to hit the qually and race objectives. As it should be.

It's easy to jump a load of places on the first lap, but anything more than 7 laps and the AI shoots past you. Then there's the buggy pit system. Then throw in the other bugs.

Good news...I've become world champion with 2 races left to go (no aids, legenday AI)
Bad news...I've done it in my first season at Lotus

How should that be possible? I've won all but 3 races and the only time i've felt like i was in a slow car was at Catalunya when i finished 15th which is about as far up the grid a Lotus will go at the minute in real life. I couldn't hold on to the mid field but could keep the rest of the new guys just behind which is spot on.

Anyone else finding the slow cars aren't slow enough?

I've set it to 3 seasons the idea being i'd start off in a slow team, go to the mid field then a top team but can't see the point now.

How is this possible?
Please tell us what aids and race settings your using!

I've qualified 8th in the Lotus in Bahrain. All assists off, expert difficulty, legend AI, tire and fuel simulatuon on. Managed to get up 2nd place during the race and only stopped playing after getting a penalty for speeding in the pitlane. I could pass any car in the second sector and then I would pull away from them.

I find it entirely believeable that someone could win the championship on expert, legend AI, all assists off and tyre and fuel simulation on.

Don't get me wrong. I've done exactly the same. But in my case, The AI soon caught up. 7 - 10 laps later. With my lap times being consistent, quicker in most cases.

I'm not saying it impossible, Just asking how....

What lap times are you putting down on, for example Bahrain.
What race distance are you using?

I am pretty sure I got into the 1.58's during qualifying in the Lotus. I was easily the fastest car through sector until 3rd quali. I reckon I could go faster with more practice. I was only doing one flying lap in each quali session. Race distance at 50%.

Tyre sim is on, fuel sim is off because the AI don't get effected by it. (turned off after race 3 - still got podiums)

Doing 10% races (around 12 laps) at the minute. The plan was to do 10% with a slow team to get a feel for it then move onto a midfield team at 50% then a top team at 100% when i have time to do long races.

The length of a race doesn't really effect the cars pace. Tyre wear etc is scaled in so after 4 laps the soft tyres have had it. It's the alarming pace you can get out of the slower cars that's got me wondering if they need to be slower.

I'll upload a pic of the standings when i get home. I've even got Lotus into second in the constructors even though jarno hasn't done very well.

Quick background note: Been sim racing for years and always had racing games before that. Playing the PC version with a G25.

I've stopped qualifying to try and make the game more challenging, it worked in Monaco, I only managed 4th from last on the grid in a 10% race, legendary AI and tyre wear on, NO aids...

It's highly likely, using the Sauber on its default setup, I'll win my first season. :(

I qualified with 1.58 something in the Lotus, Career mode. Managed 8th. Got up to 3 or 4th in the first two laps. 7/12 laps later after my pit the AI went into some kind of turbo mode. I managed to hold Schumacher off for 5 or so laps when he finally got past me, two corners later he was a spec in the distance. I finished 18th I think

Melbourne. I qualified 9th. Halfway through the race Chandhok laps me. I was getting consistently quicker as well.

Maybe I am just that slow then.

EDIT: Last two posts went up as I was typing.
I'm using the PC Version with a G25 as well.
Think I may try a 10% race but it looks like I am just that slow. :(

@swannyUK. add me if you fancy a race online mate: unKn0wn009

I'm a lot slower in the Lotus than i am in a Mclaren. It just has so much more grip and better turn in. You can really tell the difference, maybe someone should tell the AI!

is there any reason why i cant start the race at the same time as my party?

the race starts, everyone starts

i sit on the grid

unable to move for 45 seconds
either that or i get booted off the game

may as well race on my own

nobody else getting disconneted at the start of every game?

every other game i play is fine but this one isnt working

any suggestions?

I think the people complaining that it is too easy to win with a bad team on hardest difficulty need to get some perspective. For most people this is something that is VERY hard. Yes, if you have been playing racing/sim games for years you may be able to do it but for the majority of us it will be near impossible. Hardcore sim racers probably make up a very small minority of the market.

That's a very smooth lap you did there.
Myself, I drive a lot more ragged, constantly blipping the throttle, throughout the corner. My belief is that driving smooth is not the fastest way to complete a lap.

When I was younger I used to use the smooth method (ie. brake once into a corner and accelerate once out of the corner). Ever since I saw a video of how MSc generated so much pace (ie. blipping the throttle throughout a corner), I changed my style.

Agreed.

What you can do to make it more difficult, is use a bad setup. This should slow you down sufficiently to make it difficult to win.

Years ago, I played Geoff Crammond GP a lot. It got to a point where on the most difficult settings I could outqualify everybody by a few seconds. In the race, it was a similar story. To this end I started to use bad setups and started the race from the back of the grid.

Will do.

I posted this a while back if anyone wants to see my driving style etc
It was just a quick mess around to see what the renault was like. Could probably shave a good .5 off the time.

Could shave a second off I reckon.

Its not much different to my driving style. But I do take turn 2 in 3rd and cut a little more of the corner at turn 3 without the need to lift.

A very nice lap.

I race with 20% distance with no assists fuel simulation off and tyre wear on, i did race with fuel simulation on for the first 3 races but it has made no difference to my laptimes so i left it off. I have got bored of single player so i just perfer to play online or TT.

Not got a clue!
Turned the hud to just Rev counter because it looks cluttered with everything else on for a video.

I'll do another run tonight and let you know along with a screeny of my career standings

Completely agree and understand but "Legendary" should be just that. You can make the AI easier by putting it back a peg or 2 but if you are finding little challenge against them on Legendary then there isn't much you can do.

As mentioned above you can put on a rubbish setup but that makes the car horrible to drive.

This might sound counter-intuitive, but you're driving far too smoothly. By far the best way to be quick in F1 2010 is to absolutely throw the car around, basically just taking advantage of the physics problems.

It was a great looking lap, just not as fast as you can be by grabbing the car by the scruff of the neck and chucking it about.
