The shifter on the G25 has 2 modes, H pattern and Sequential mode(push forward to shift down, pull back to shift up), the shifter on the G27 only has the H pattern mode. Both wheels have paddle shifters.

I understand.

But tell me, why would you want to use the "shifter"? The paddle shifters behind the wheel are much faster. If I had no choice, I would use the shifter, however, given that the wheel is equipped with paddle shifters, its a no brainer.

there is no difference in time taken to shift, its just some people feel more comfortable with a sequential compared to paddles, i know i am.

I like to use whatever shifting mechanism the real life cars have, so if im driving a open wheeler or LMP car that has paddles i use paddles, if im driving a GT or Touring car that has sequential i use sequential, if im driving a road car with h pattern i like to use the h pattern.

whereas i know other people who prefer to use paddles for everything.

;)

the more i learn about this game the more it seems aparent they have left stuff out/rushed stuff in and once its done its done wether theres blatant flaws or not because they are already talking about 2011 for september next year :S

Still looks great though and is getting excellent reviews. F1 2011 is going to be one hell of a great game if they include everything we have suggested.

It must make you wonder why all these wheel manufacturers bother to build gearsticks and the like in the first place. ;)

I Can't wait for Thursday/Friday , well in fact the weekend. I cancelled my PS3 version so getting this on the PC, might as well since I built a fairly decent new rig back in April. Ordered a 360 pad as I currently don't have a pad or wheel. (not that I have space for a wheel anyway)

Play F1 2010 Friday, drive a real Ferrari on a track day on Saturday, Watch the Singapore GP on Sunday!!

Automatic transmission is illegal in F1 i'm sure.

Yup. Like NightSt@lk3r said, paddle shift. The only time the clutch is controlled manually is off the starting grid (and even then it is using the paddles).

Just noticed the Logitech Driving Force EX Steering Wheel sold out in most places. Glad I picked up mine :)

Might have to grab my G25 out for this, only packed it away last week :grumble:.
Although I really prefer simulation, rfactor, LFS and the like and nothing arcade at all.

I assume this game does cater to those who like some sort of realism?

I would call myself a hardcore sim racer, have been racing for 7 years with sim's, and must say i have been rather impressed by the way the cars seem to handle in VVV Gamer's videos in expert mode.

No doubt I'll get this.. install it.. play it for a few hours with my Xbox 360 pad (on my pc) then decide I need a wheel ;)

Oh.. and my shopto.net order is also showing as processing :D

Are there any other steering wheels out there, for the PC, which are under £100.

I can't see why I should spend £200+ on a steering wheel, given that my last steering wheel (Logitech Formula Force), cost about £90 and was of sufficiently high quality for me to be happy.

Do you guyes think a steering wheel is a must for this game and what do people recommend?

Think it will be a must if you want all the aids turned off. Will also help with the immersion. Have a Logitech Force EX here and it is an excellent wheel for the price.

Picked it up for £45

- Great quality build
- Good FFB
- Works like a treat in Grid and Dirt 2
- Supported for PS3 in F1 2010, so should be fine for PC
- Uses same drivers as G25 and G27
