get a Logitech driving force GT, thrustmaster wheels suck
Having taken into account the comments in this thread and also the relative cost of all the wheels available, I've pretty much decided on going with the driving force GT. Before I do take the plunge, is there anything worth knowing that could make this wheel not the one to go for?

It's worth pointing out I've only ever been at best a casual player of driving games, and have always used a controller. That said, I think I've come round to the idea that **** pit view/driving wheel is the way to get the best from driving games, so will this wheel give me the experience I'm looking for?

This can be had for around £100.

Or Logitech EX if you don't want to spend too much, but still want a great quality wheel.

This can be had for around £50-£60.

I've just looked at a few reviews of the 2 wheels above.

I will be using the gear shift paddles at the back of the wheel. Can anyone tell me why I would pay an £50 for the Logitech driving force GT, as opposed to getting the cheaper Logitech EX?

yeah the idea of multiplayer on this worries me. I think most of it will be hoping you get lucky to survive the 1st corner while the idiots at the back ram into everyone ending their race.

This is why it is VERY important that the damage to the cars is limited. In real life, a mere touch by an opposing driver, can result in your DNF. For this reason, I think CodeMasters have done well to make the F1 cars more robust than in real life.

aye, from the vid it looks like no-ones gonna leave turn one with their front wing, but atleast they might still have all 4 wheels attached to their car

I disagree, you should be able to choose full damage, a lot of people will only run with friends online and would like to be able to have full damage.

Me and a few of my team mates plan on setting up a little league once we have a mod to remove the silly 12 player cap.

This is the ideal scenario.

If you use that sort of setting, you run the risk (during online play) where some drivers will select to run in "indestructable mode", while others will run in "realistic damage mode". This means that those who are running indestructable, will turn the race into bumper cars.

To prevent the above scenario, its best to have a standard setting.

I think people are forgetting just how destructive some people can be and they won't care if they ruin other people's races. The last thing you want is to be racing over a long race distance...you build up a big lead and then a back marker takes you out.

I'm not saying that there should be indestructable cars...just that the cars should be stronger than that seen in real life.

Thats complete rubbish, you can stop people turning damage off on an online race easily, you can either run a server with no damage, full damage or something inbetween (visual damage only).

Your logic is absolutely shocking. Just because a few tools might ruin a race sometimes, the damage shouldn't be realistic? Seriously?

Heres one showing the physics model in extreme crashes:

This vid is a little more encouraging - A lot of the crashes look really detailed and well done - however, there are few that look naff :p

Can AI cars have crashes with each other? For example, if you start the race at the back an on the first corner there can be a small pile up and you have to manuover around it or be in it? :p

I'd never had a wheel before a few weeks ago and bought the driving force gt and can highly recommend it - will never go back to pad/keyboard for racing games now!

This can be had for around £100.

Quite a few places (e.g. argos) have it for £80 or less.

Dixons have the DFGT cheap.
B.t.w. I got my shopto. order conformation last night, reckon I should get it today or tomorrow morning. Formula One 2010 game that is.
