Agreed, I'm definitely losing confidence of a decent team radio.

We were told there would be pretty detailed engineer to driver radio transmissions but from the 3-4 videos featuring team radio ALL have been completely pathetic!

The Codies are great at marketing a product, telling us that they'll include the features we want. Then the product ships & things aren't quite what they said. Bit like politicians really :p

They made a big fuss with OpFlash : DR, released all sorts of neat looking dev vids that promised a lot but ultimately failed to deliver when the game was reviewed.

I'd personally wait until its reviewed by a site you trust before parting with any hard earned money.

There will be plenty of hands-on reviews from regular gamers after Gamescom, should help you form an opinion.

After GRID and DiRT2 this game is a must buy and I'll be picking it up as soon as it appears on Steam. It's about time a decent developer got their hand on the F1 licence.

Out of interest, are you allowed to/can you answer the following question?

Why are actual gameplay videos very rarely released by marketing/community people? This extends to pretty much every company I can think of. Just as an example I watch EA NHL marketing every year and literally the only actual raw gameplay footage you get comes directly from the developers uploaded into Youtube under shady accounts. All the "official" videos are all flash no show. The same is at least partially true with, as I said, literally every major game I can think of (something like Elemental isn't a major title as such and a huge part of the marketing&videos is done by Brad Wardell himself, the CEO of the company).

For example F1 2010 has had some dev diaries but it takes ages to finish and release them and they show very, very little gameplay in very short, few second clips. Even you are waiting for people NOT working at Codemasters to release raw footage and most of the stuff that gets released is worthless, showing the game in a bad light. Is there some issue with simply launching up the game, capturing some footage and releasing it? Why are developers (in some cases anyway) doing that but never the marketing people? Or is raw gameplay footage just something the mainstream doesn't want? I honestly don't know but if you have any ideas and/or can answer, please do so :)

That's the first vid I've seen that has given me a little confidence in the physics. This could actually be alright! Radio is pants though, could get very annoying.

Hamilton won the race, watch the end more closely :)
I think he just means that he is ahead of Rosberg. Fair point tbh :D

what details of the multiplayer are available?

is it going to be the same as GRID?

grid was hassle free and 'just worked'

Dirt2 was a massive lag fest and totally unenjoyable to play.

even though i believe they are based on the same system?

also will things like pitting/tyre selection/damage play an important part in multiplayer?
i would ideally like to see 10 lap races minimum but i would prefer to play full grand prix length races if possible.

will multiplayer involve qualifying too?

I took your questions to the official CM forums, hope you don't mind. I added some of my own because I know nothing about on line play at all.

I'm personally not that fussed about multiplayer, but it would be nice to know because I'm probably going to have a few games online. No doubt someone here will make a league or something, so it would be good to know for that.

Straight from a moderator on the CM forums ...

will it be full 24 player online for the PC? No, maximum of 12 on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3
will multiplayer involve qualifying too? Yes, if you want it to

Are there different builds of the game at gamescom? Perhaps on different platforms?

Because I was quite please to see that the virtual wheel turned in sync with the actual wheel in this vid, and little things like animations for brake balance and stuff, which seem to be absent in those videos posted above.

the thing that worries me, is looking at those videos the steering looks all weird, turn the wheel, and the car doesn't turn, turn it a little bit more and it snaps into a turn at like 1/4 lock. Why is it all new F1 games are like this, yet the GP series was not?

As I mentioned, if you check this vid out, the steering is 1:1 with the wheel. It looks like the other vids are either a different build of the game for some reason, or it's in gamepad mode or something. I'd quite like to know what is going on, because it's little things like this that really get on my nerves.

From what we've been told:

Race length is highly variable from 1 lap to full race length.
Multiplayer will include proper qualifying knock out and I believe a practice too as they classed it as "a full race weekend".

Also server hosts can limit all the assists (as I would have expected anyway) so everyone is in the same boat/car.

It'll be interesting to know whether players online can be black flagged or receive any forms of penalty. Would be nice if players were black flagged for racing the circuit in reverse etc.

The build being played with the custom made seats and wheels is on PC, whilst the other build on show being played with the MS Xbox Wheel is on Xbox 360.

It is entirely possible that people have adjusted the wheel settings such as deadzone in the in-game menu, because as some have commented, in a couple of the vids the wheel movement is pretty much 1:1.
