***Official Formula One 2011 Thread***

I just find it silly that traction control is even being discussed. The sport hasn't had it since 2007. So why have it in a modern game. Nor has it had ABS since the early 90's.

Yes it's for the new comers but there should be a learning stage for that. Then you can't use driver aids online or time trials. The way it should be.

Unfortunately they want people beyond a few hardcore F1 nuts who want everything to be total simulation to buy their game, so they put things in to make the game accessible.

I've raced there, the circuit has mistakes.

I know everyone will pile in with "no one wants a full on sim, it's not accessible, **** off to iracing" but it'd be nice if they got close, real close and then created a separate arcade mode alongside it to cater for all crowds.

What mistakes though? I'm curious

Sorry I didn't mean ambience and scenery I meant surface details, camber, undulations, kerbs and the like - stuff that most people probably don't care about because to them it doesn't matter if it's a faithful recreation.

One thing I noticed with Spa is that they left the gravel trap in that got removed this year? :D

I'm not sure the name of the corner but it's the tight hairpin that Lewis went off last year.

I'm guessing most of the tracks are pretty much a copy and paste from last years game with some extra assets and plenty of optimizing. I think the camber, bumps and such are hard for art designers to recreate as most of them have probably never been on the track and only have feedback from drivers and such. Along with that I think to add that kind of detail to a track you really need to laser scan it which I think is something way out of Codemasters budget and skill set.

I wouldn't expect anything like that when they had a 1 year timeframe to complete it, I think they've put an astonishing amount of extras in the game to make it fun and enjoyable.

I get what you're saying and understand it has to be accessible to the masses but on the flipside F1 is a precision sport and they should try and cater to that.

Not wanting to contradict myself here as I'm not suggesting a [near] 100% sim because sat in front of a screen is too sterile and doesn't lend itself to that level of handling complexity, something slightly more forgiving so the cars don't just snap away and THEN build an arcade model down from that.

Anyway, that's just my opinion and the game is built now. :)

It would be nice if they catered towards the hardcore, but I don't think it would've been feasible in their timeframe, not that they didn't want to include it I just don't think they had the time when they had to cater for the masses.

I prefer something fun, as much as I like some sims.

As has been posted, surely laser scanning every single track and making sure that every single bump and bit of camber was included to be 100% accurate would cost an absolute fortune!

There's no point. Most people won't care that they're not laser scanned and the minority that will won't make up the cost of doing it anyway. It would be nice if they could at least remove the glaring inaccuracies though!

For this time of game OTT agreed, doesn't stop them actually driving the track and filming it so they can add the obvious details. :)
