***Official Formula One 2011 Thread***

I caved was not going to buy but a well known shop is selling for only £16.86 (they gave me £1 loyaly discount as well) so I knew it was worth that to me :D

PC-DVD arrived today. Its effectively F1 2010 with season updates & a few new features plus most of the annoying features of 2010 thankfully removed as Codemasters have listened.

Graphically in DX11 with max everything & the highest possible AA + vsync I am seeing a constant 60 FPS & ultra smooth gameplay @ 1920x1200. The only glitches I can see are the deliberate one where if a car is too close to the other it can sometimes appear to pass through the car in front if you do not have the realistic settings as there is no crashing on the easy modes if you disable certain settings.
Change it to realistic this does not happen you collide exactly like you would in the real world so its doing exactly what its supposed to in the realistic gameplay mode. I can guess if you play with no realism the cars pass through as no crashes to enforce

Loading times are improved on F1 2010 & the menus are very lightweight now like they always should be no fancy front end thankfully!!

Cars handle like a dream very easy to drive with aids on but obviously more challenging with no aids.

Graphically its slightly better looking than F1 2010 but not by much. You can see the EGO engine showing its age in places with a lack of detail on some track details but in other places there is more detail & the DX11 post pro effects add some nice touches like enhanced reflections which are stunning & some fancy light bloom & lens flare reflections. Overall its a mixed bag although the cars all look stunning with massive amounts of detail & a large number of polygons. The cars are the real stars here the rest of the race track is passable but to keep FPS high Codemasters obviously chose to keep some background graphics you do not see for long low detail/low res.

Overall I would say Codemasters have definately taken onboard a lot of community complaints from F1 2010 & taken steps to improve it a lot. Its now much faster to get into races & you can skip a lot of pre or post race game rendered scenes so perhaps 1-2 min between races/sessions now.

Its still a sim/arcade game you chose which suits you best but to master on sim will take a lot of skill/time/dedication so plenty of gameplay time here & most of the achievements are SP based only a few online achievements but you also have the fun Co-Op modes to try to win the championship with a human Co-Op teammate :D

My expectations were not high & I was not even going to buy this but for the excellent price & effort Codemasters have obviously put in I think its well worth getting especially if you like/love F1 ;)

That still makes no sense then. Time trial should be based on when the tyres are optimal/peak in the career/GP qualifying mode but fuel in minimal run but never runs out. A bit like F1:CE.

Should have been called fantasy instead of time trial.

Soon Monaco will be in the 1:00's it's that silly. Even Brazil is going to be really daft. Last years game people were in 1:02 - 04's. By the crazy looks of time trial this year, Brazil will be in just double digits.

If Codemasters haven't made the tracks as accurate as they are in real life (i.e., shorter) and the cars are faster than they are in real life, it would explain the unrealistic lap times. This is what I always believed in F1 2010, anyway, especially as I often managed far higher top speeds than you would see in reality.

On another note: the game runs much better than F1 2010. Had a quick blast this morning, and I was able to get higher fps with post processes on Ultra than I was in F1 2010 with post processes off.

I don't have a wheel, but am in the process of hopefully acquiring a Fanatec Porsche 911 Turbo S. Will know by Sunday afternoon if I'll get it, so am going to try and will myself not to play much so I don't taint myself by getting too used to an X360 pad.

BTW that mode is just Time Trial Arcade. Seems that the arcade bit got lost in translation. The aim is to beat record times, and giving a reasonable even playing field.

You just can't please everyone :) F1 2011 is more sim than 2010, and is aimed at the fans of the sport, not the hardcore sim player. Although I'm sure they'll still enjoy it, I much prefer the improved handling which is more subtle on the limit.

I cant get my hard copy to install. Progress bar hangs at 1/4 distance .

Im trying to install into my games folder in Users/Me, I did notice a small padlock icon by my user folder when chosing location, any ideas? Tried running the autorun as administrator but no luck :(

Yes use Program Files just accept the default choice the location you chose is a special permissions area not designed to install games to!! It also takes around 20 mins to install from DVD & will appear to be doing nothing but it is copying the many small files slowly but surely!

I had the same issue, opened up the disk contents in explorer and ran the file called 'Game', installed first time

Noticed a massive difference in the car handling this year. You really can feel less grip, but much more through the slow corners. The amount of times in 2010 my car inexplicably lost traction at 40mph going round corner 1 in Malaysia for example was awful.

Got to relearn a few tactics it seems. I don't want to start turning assists on, as it feels like going backwards.

This isn't an issue we've encountered, are you able to supply us with a dxdiag so our compliance team can take a look and see if they can work out what's happening.

Thankyou,

It happens pretty much every other benchmark, so i'd be very surprised if it doesnt happen for everyone. It looks like its an anti-pile-up type prevention put in place, maybe its purely for the benchmark so it can always complete a lap... dunno, but it removes some realism.
What happens is everyone chugs down to the hairpin, things slow down cars stop and rather than squabble and jutter their way out, the system thinks rather than them get stuck and be unable to move, lets cheat and let them pass through each other and get things moving again.
I've done maybe 15 benchmarks trying to get some sort of sensible crossfire setup, and it turns out disabling it makes it run at double the framerate and bizarrely enables Dx11. But ive seen it half a dozen times at least, so i dont see as it'd be hard for anyone to replicate within 2-4 attempts, just look 4-8 cars ahead and if it comes to a halt for even a split-second they'll do some form of pass-through, minor or major like the previous screenshots show or this one shows in the far left.

Wouldnt have expected to see you on here, saves me registering on the codies site...
I happened to make a mistake earlier today while registering my access code to an GfWL account, is there any chance that you guys have the ability to terminate a code, release it, put it on a different account or something that would fix this?? I seemingly have 2 accounts, one with shall we say an 'offensive' name, which the XBL staff werent too impressed with when i contacted them this lunchtime :D they said they couldnt address it, and only you guys were able to do this, and 'maybe they can give you a new key, or sell you one cheap'. Ideally just releasing the key or modifying who owns it or something like that. I can provide photos of the instruction manual etc and the account its registered to.

Ideally i'd like it on the account i never thought to try (MSN account, which has F1 2010 on it), im not even aware of ever creating the one its stuck on, so wondering if gmail releases unused/abused accounts and ive somehow registered it, requested a pw change to get in, and cos it only asks for email, pw & key i've no idea its not even my account... whatever... wasnt going to bother registering on the codies site to ask, but seeing as your here im hoping maybe it can be addressed. MS/XBL say they cant move it (or similar) and now im stuck with one account for 2010, and another offensively named one for 2011, and dont particularly fancy driving around with it (actually, im not fussed, but i cant imagine XBL or yourselves would be impressed). Its not offensive to the point of being unable to post it on here, but it isnt wonderful.
