***Official Formula One 2011 Thread***

I love the way that if you go off backwards through a gravel trap or grass, bits of grass/gravel come flying over your head

It took me a while to work this out, if your press enter on the keyboard it reverts your controls to keys instead of wheel which is idiotic. My profile has a steering wheel setup saved, why not just load that?!

It was exactly the same in Dirt 3 and even more annoying when it doesn't recognise any start buttons on your wheel. I eventually got it to work (think my fix is around the web somewhere) - will probably have to sort this out before I start playing F1 2011. That and moving the replay file :(

Guys

Can anyone help me to set up my Xbox 360 FF wheel properly!!! It always seems to pull to one side and I cannot get any force feedback on it!!

Thanks

can anyone explain DRS / KERS and when to use it?

During the race DRS is only allowed at certain points on track (usually 1 or 2 main straights) and only if you are within 1 second of the car in front. It opens the rear wing reducing drag and thus increases acceleration.

In qualifying you can risk using DRS more often but it significantly reduces rear grip so use sparingly.

KERS is stored energy from braking, it's an electric motor that gives a boost of 80hp for up to 7 seconds. You can use it in bursts around the whole track and it gets topped up every new lap.

KERS is best used out of slower corners to get the car back up to speed, 3rd gear onwards is typical.

KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) is a device that stores the kinetic energy from braking into a battery. This stored up energy can be used for just under 7 seconds per lap to provide an 80bhp boost which helps in overtaking and/or getting off the line faster. It can be used at any point around the track until your battery is empty, which replenishes once you cross the start/finish line.

DRS (Drag Reduction System) is another overtaking aid. When activated, a flap on your rear wing lifts up in order to reduce drag, improving straight line speed and acceleration. In qualifying and practice, DRS can be opened at any point on the track to help improve lap times, but, unlike KERS, it can only be used at a designated point on the track during a race when you are within 1 second of a car in front. This is to make overtaking easier on straights. But because DRS reduces downforce, your shouldn't use it when going round corners. :p

Hope that helps.

Just picked this up from town, when i've finished battling with my grandson for keyboard control i'll install and battle gfwl, not looking forward to that bit.

Bah, handling is good, but I need to learn how to drive the things properly. Currently ten seconds off the pace and sliding all over the place. :o

how are people finding it with a 360 pad? I keep locking the fronts on every corner. Any tips welcome. **wait for "just brake less"** :)

I'd love to get a wheel but I dont have the room. :(

Personally i couldnt drive with a 360 pad in 2010 with no assists e.t.c. I found it impossible.

I don't know about 2011 as the postman has not delivery my letter post yet today!

was second on the leaderboards last time i checked, could have been better as i was a bit conservative on certain corners.

Second... Behind me :p

Although there's someone ahead of me now who's quite obviously used the 11/11 suspension setup if you download their ghost... Grrs

Hope this gets fixed and the leaderboards reset. I remember being top of a lot of the leaderboards shortly after release last year - lots of good people out there though (and exploiters :().

Any news on a crossfirex patch from ATI or Codies?

In a Williams with no assists at all, stock setup on pro, is 1:14 dead around Monaco in the dry good?

The reason I ask is I'm obliterating the AI.

Well yes, brake less, and ease the brakes as the speed decreases (at low speed, you get less down force, therefore less load on the tyres therefore easier lock ups). And don't brake and turn, or 'trail' the brakes. Reducing pressure gradually as you enter the turn.

You should soon get a feel of how much braking you can get out of it.

Starting to get on my nerves now. Any time there's a notification or popup in Windows, the game goes in to windowed mode. Is there any way to stop this?

Game-wise, I've managed to get down to a 1:29.0 with the Force India, but had to knock TC up to medium. It's getting better and better, at least. Still 3.5s off the fastest, although I haven't tried options yet... :)
