Anyone using a Fanatec on this who's played F1 2011? The demo steering was crazy twitchy and I'm putting off buying it until that's been sorted if at all

Yep, it's much better in the full game. I prefer it to 2011 too.

Not sure what model you have but there's profiles for Fanatec wheels included (no G25 emulation needed), but if you've upgraded to the latest firmware some of the button mappings are wrong - and you can't manually change some of them in game (like menu navigation/start etc), so I've used a modded .XML I found which works well - just need to keep copying it into the game directory every time there's a patch.

Hmm I'm happy with 2011 for the most part, 2012 team changes were minimal and they'll be outdated very quickly. I might pick it up if/when someone mods it to fit the 2013 rosters.

I really don't like that they're releasing it at the end of every season as they just get outdated so quickly... They could at least update the driver lists or liveries.

Plus the career mode's way of kicking people out of the series is ridiculous that if you move to say Mercedes, Rosberg no longer drives in F1 but Karthikeyan still has a drive. I'd much prefer it if they went to lower end teams, so say you went to Red Bull, Webber might go to Mercedes or Toro Rosso. It just doesn't seem right kicking out the big names from the champioinship

I'm guessing they can't do that due to FIA contractual terms and the like, they wouldn't want to be showing a driver racing under a different team/sponsors. Even if it is a game I bet the FIA are pretty tough on that kind of stuff :p

Yeah I see that, but if they're gonna be like that then why not wait until later in the year, release it in November or December for the next season when all the drivers are announced then update the liveries when the season starts? Or just release in March instead of October? October seems like the worst possible time for them to release it as the game then becomes outdated in 3 months...

Probably because they would only have a few months to create the cars, get them signed off by the FIA and such with no guidance of what changes the new rules brings to the cars. For example a few years back when brawn dominated due to the double diffuser, if they release it early brawn would have probably been a mid field team and the downforce of the cars wouldn't be correctly represented.

If you think how much guess work is done by fans and technical analysis before the fist practice session (often 2/3rd before the new cars are used) on how the cars will perform. Imagine trying to design a game around that in a few months from the announcement of the cars to the first race in the season.

Also most racing games don't sell as well early in year due to the Christmas blockbusters and late in the year due to the Christmas blockbusters :p

It would be nice for them to release it a little earlier though like May/June time during the mid-season break.

Then patch it when the season starts and the performance is reasonably clear. Nobody minds patches really and it seems like a very small bit of effort in exchange for having a game that actually lasts more than a few months. Every time I watched an F1 race, particularly on a track that was on Forza, I'd really want to go race that afterwards. Not being able to actually have the race that you watch when you go on the official F1 game just seems silly. We get about 4 races of being able to run alongside the real series and then we're back to having to look for workarounds or mods for the liveries and names.

Voip mainly and a few rain bugs :D

Here is the list:

• Added two new options for PC users to improve voice communications.
1. Added a Push To Talk option. This can be turned on in the Audio Options (My F1 -> Audio) and is bound to T by default. The key used can be edited in My F1 -> Driving Controls -> View / Customise Profile.
2. Added a Disable All Voice Comms option. This can be turned on in the Audio Options (My F1 -> Audio) and will disable all outgoing and incoming voice communication.
• Fixed an issue where the track could become wet without any rain being visible.
• Rebalanced engine wear so it will go below 99% during a season.

Strategy really is so important in F1 2012.

Started 10th in South Korea, everyone started on dry tyres, but it started raining on the grid. Got up to third, everyone pitted, but they all went onto another set of dry tyres and I opted for inters. Got held up in the pit stops, but by the time we all got to S3 it was raining much heavier and I flew passed them all :)

Had to change back onto dry tyres later on in the race as it started to dry up again.

I like having to make these decisions, in 2011 it never really mattered as much.

I am stuck with the most ridiculous bug in Spain in career mode. It says it is raining, but it has only just started but the track is fairly wet so dry tyres are useless and i have no grip. I have tried intermediatte and full wet and they have even worse grip!

Now this would be ok somewhat if the AI werent setting dry lap times!!!!
WTF!

It's the stroboscopic effect or "Wagon Wheel Effect" as it's more commonly known:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stroboscopic_effect

Still think its stupid, why did they waste their time on programming an irritating strobe effect in when there are other Real life Racing events that dont seem to work, turning damage on full and driving into a barrier you only lose your front wing and can still drive round for instance

Finally completed my first season. Mclaren next season :)

Really liking the dynamic weather system, it certainly keeps things interesting.

Looking forward to having more power from the mclaren and no longer having to defend like a madman on the straights.

whats the graphics and handling with a puncture like, I havent seen any mention if a puncture happens, can you still carry on driving like earlier versions or does the tyre shred

I think its the same as it previously was I've only seen the puncture in the young drivers test when it is scripted :p

There is no tyre scaling so you would probably only see punctures in 100% races tbh. Or 50% races with aggressive use of tyres.
