Official Gigabyte DS3 Owners Thread

Got myself a DS3, E6300 & 2 GB Geil PC6400 today

Currently running at 440 @ 4-4-4-12

Been running dual prime for a couple of hours. Looking good so far. Hoping to get 3.5 ghz with a bit more tweaking. :D

Only problem I had was the board came with the f1 bios so couldn't set mem timings until flashed to f3.

Is that the Geil ram from this weeks "This week only"?

Yes. Thats the stuff.

Haven't been able to get much higher fsb on those timings though. Need to slacken them off to get past 450.

I built a rig for my girlfriend today, using the DS3, a 6300 allendale, an x1900 GT and some Corsair C5. I haven't been able to get it running stable at stock settings. Has anyone else had horrible problems with something like this setup. It'll just randomly reset in windows, or bluescreen, or crash out of something like Dungeon Siege 1 quoting all sorts of exceptions. I've tried underclocking it, using a different PSU (my 620 liberty), slowing down the ram, flashing the bios and have reinstalled windows I think 4 times.

I have no idea if it's the board or the memory that needs RMAing. I fancied overclocking an allendale, but I'm sorely tempted to just swap the board for one that isn't so famous for overclocking but actually works.

What do DS3 owners use to make a backup of the operating drive with ? (can make a backup, its restoring that i have issues) I used norton ghost and arconis but no go with the DS3 board...most odd.

You checked the memory voltages? make sure its running at 2.1V (stock is 1.8V for this board), and manually set the cas to 5 in bios (you will need to press ctrl+f1 to see the memory timing options)

Updated opening post with overclocking guide.

This was only a quick guide, so will be adding more later. Feel free to contribute here and I will add bits in :)

excellent thread Duke. Been struggling to clock mine with the ram in sig. Now i realise it must be my memory. been on stock all the time with 4,4,4,15 timings @775mhz that are rated at 2.1v

Will try it out later. :)

It is, but it actually comes with a heatsink attached :) They must have not used them in the pre-retail boards, as shown in the photo.
