***Official Gigabyte Z77X-UP4 TH, Z77X-UP5 TH and Z77X-UP7 discussion thread***

cool

Down clocks when idel is what i be doing most just looking for power saving stuff
i hope gigabyte has some good power saving features.

have you used Intel® Rapid Start Technology? does it still downloading torrents while in that mode?? :p

oh its not so high they are decent idel usage

During overclocking the power consumption of Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UP4 TH remained at the average level. However, we should definitely praise Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UP5 TH for showing unexpectedly low power readings during maximum CPU utilization. It is comparable with what other mainboards in the 4.5 GHz overclocking group showed, although there is still room for improvement in idle mode and under minimal operational load.

you can have a look at the power usage

63w whats that like 30p a day 247 if idel

Have you guys got the intel ahci drivers installed? I had funny results with mine, so uninstalled, but my Samsung 830 is giving me only 500mb/s reads as opposed to the advertised 550...

Any idea if the Intel Management Engine Components are needed too? I have a feeling they're responsible for slowing boot times down...

Should work fine, but they have tall heatsinks that foul big CPU coolers,do you need 16gb? I'm running 8gb Samsung green at 2133mhz just fine

That board has more features than the up4

@Stef id install the intel management drivers,i havnt bought an ssd yet for my up4 so cant comment,im running my hdd with ahci drivers though and the management drivers

So if i get 660ti sli it will run at 8x8
But wouldn't be no different if i put them
in my old pc which has pcie 2.0 16x16.

for the price of the up5 you would thought it would come 16x16 like asus ws board

Is anybody else having issues with the UP5 and fan speeds? I was using 3 pin fans in my case, and the only one that was being adjusted by the bios auto speed setting was the one on connector 1 (or the front left edge connector which the lower of my front two fans). Tried switching from normal to silent or manual settings and it was the same. Switched to off and everything was at full speed.

Just replaced them with 4 pin/pwm fans (and ensured bios is pwm mode) and now they are all adjusted but fan 1 seems to run at half the speed of the rest? (i.e. 300 rpm when the others are on 600). Again, doesn't seem to matter which mode I have it set on (other than "off").

On latest official bios, but don't want to try the betas just yet.

EDIT: Nevermind - read some more forum posts and actually cracked open the manual to find that syfan headers 2 + 3 work differently to 1, and 4 seems to be on full at all times anyway. Why this isn't just the same for all 4 is anybodies guess. Was fine on my previous asus...

Time for some fan shuffling I think, and maybe some splitters - possibly a fan controller if it comes to it. :)

i hope it doesn't affect my fans but the case i have got is the corsair 500r which has a fan controller

Yes, some fans come with a speed switch - but not the ones I'm using. :)

I have a couple of antec tri-speed fans somewhere but not used them in ages. :D

Hey guys,
Just had funny occurring with my P67 MIVE where it wouldn't boot, left it a couple of hours now it seems OK. So I have decided to get a new board because I cant afford to be down.

Any issues with the UP5 I should be aware of?

Seems to tick all the boxes and it seems pretty power efficient.

I have 3570K and 2600K.

i havnt come across any with the latest f10b beta bios, runs my ram at 2133mhz,oc's cpu to 4.6ghz but 4.5ghz is more 24/7 friendly imo

idk how it would perform with a 2600k i havnt tested

Sounds good to me. Like I said I have a 3570K so I will see which will perform better OC.

I did hear something about USB issues but wasn't sure if it was the UD5?
