What can you say about gigabyte customer services. Absolutely outstanding sent an sae at half three onsat afternoon asking for a backplate for my motherboard. Received an email back yesterday lunchtime saying they had received my sae and woukd be dispatching one asap. Half 8 this morning and one drops thru my letterbox. Now thats top notch in my opinion

As always!!! GIGA customer service rocking.

+1, glad I am with Gigabyte.

I did almost the exact same as robertchalmers1, however the Royal Mail (or someone in between) managed to leave me with a slightly different outcome:

My, what a suspiciously I/O shield-shaped hole we have!

Can't fault Gigabyte at all though, there's another (heavily sellotape-reinforced) SAE on it's way to them.

I put a smaller bubblewrap padded envelope inside a larger one so it was double wrapped just to make sure I got it in one piece. I had visions of it being bent in the post.

Theoretical question...

Can you save your BIOS settings, upgrade it and reload the settings without it ******** itself? I'm assuming not?

I don't thinkso, flashing bios will lose any oc profiles as far as I know

you can take screenshots of each bios page/setting with usb stick and f12 key

EDIT: you have a dual bios switch, switch to backup bios and flash that bios if you wanted to try/test new beta bios, you oc will be safe on the other bios chip

You can save profiles to a USB stick then try loading them after a flash. But..........it may not work due to changes between BIOS versions.

Stuff under the hood is also saved and is very often not compatible between bios revisions such as a memory tuning and training.

On the Gigabyte Z87X-OC Force, do you need the 8 pin ATX power connector and the 4 pin power both connected, under normal load, to enable successful boot ?
Thanks

no,it will run fine with just a 4 pin plug or 8 pin plug if you have them

basically if your psu has the plugs then use them 4pin/8pin and extra 4pin

Great thanks , its to run it up tomorrow with a psu I have, without using the one in my case, just to test it all works before I complete my build.

I'm planning on ordering one of these boards this week, can't decide on the following:

Whether the 4770K is worth the £75 more than the 4670K

Whether I can do much overclocking with a good air cooler (been looking at the akasa voodoo venom) or whether I should just buy a closed loop cooler like a h100i or x60 kraken

My case is a Corsair 540 so should be about as good as air cooling can get I'd have thought.

Haswell runs hot when overclocked, so the better the cooling the er.. Better!

I found the H100i allowed me maximum overclock of 4.3 ghz with realistic temps. Can't comment on air cooling, as I haven't used it.
