**Official Gigabyte Z87X-OC Discussion Thread**

I had a little test. Upped the multiplier to 45, put vcore on 1.285v and LLC to high, no problems booting and running stuff but I've done no stress testing. On the Gene I'm sure this wouldn't boot.

I've tried as much as 1.38-1.4V to see if 5Ghz would be stable, I can boot into windows and do a CPU-Z validation, but thats about it.

Seriously considering delidding the chip.

I'm going to aim for 4.7GHz - my current 4.5GHz could fail stress tests, but it's been totally stable for desktop stuff (I haven't installed Windows yet). I think my cooler will cope with 1.35v except in full stress tests.

I like this board - it's not quite as pretty as the Gene but it feels very well put together.

With Haswell, does RAM speed have any effect on OC ability?
I thought that link said that the more you OC the CPU the worse the IMC performs? If that's true then does it also follow that you can get a better OC with lower RAM speeds/timings?

Ive seen something along those lines (maybe at xtremesystems) but I think it was for silly (over 5ghz..sub zero etc) cpu speeds when trying to get that last bit out of them.

Ok i have tried this turbo button and in the bios the vcore went to 1.4X that sounds really bad ?.

Yeah, 1.4v for 4.2Ghz is awful.

In the BIOS is a part called "cpu upgrade" there are a few different clock speeds, try them.

Thought I'd see if I could do 4.1GHz at 1.26v, but it's not stable. Do I have a contender for the worst 4670K ever?

Do you guys all have 4770Ks? Do they generally clock better? I'd have though heat would've been a bigger problem with the HT?
Tempted to sell my 4670K (if anyone would buy it) and get a 4770K.

I can do 4.2 at 1.25v and nothing more, I was hoping for a 4.6 but oh well.

I have a 4670k.

4.6-4.8GHz is easy to do.

4.95Ghz is stable and needs 1.36-1.37.

5GHz boot into windows needs more volts again but isnt stable.

My first 4770K needed about 1.30v to reach 3.9GHz, so I returned that one. I haven't had time to test the replacement properly, but I'm running at 4.5GHz at 1.285v stable on the OC board (I've done zero stress testing, and have only been doing standard desktop stuff so far).

Going to try this tomorrow.

An Easy 4.4/4.5/4.6GHz Template:
Here are the settings I used; you can use them as a template for your settings:
CPU VRIN Override LLC: Set to Extreme (this is to make sure VIN doesn’t droop)
CPU VRIN Override Voltage: 1.7-2.0v (reduce if temeratures too high is causing instability, increase if temperatures are fine and you are unstable)
VCore: 1.2-1.25v
Ring Voltage: 1.15 or 1.2v
CPU Multiplier: 45x
BCLK: Auto
Turbo: Auto
C1E, C3, C6/C7, and EIST: All Disabled (There is a table in Step #1 which describes the behavior or different power saving features and what to enable/disable to get the behavior you want.)

This was a nice read also

By the time I got around to building mine it was too late to return it :(

I changed the battery, new DVD drive, new hard disk and new windows 7 disk. Then it all started up without a problem. No corrupt bios and no restarts :-).
