########Official GTA4 Performance thread########

I think what I am seeing is that CPU speed is important (obviously the more cores the better too).

Clocking my quad from 3.2GHz to 3.6GHz made absolutely no difference to the frame rate.. Looks as if my GTX280 is the bottleneck..

Not sure if its been mentioned here yet but change your GTA launch shortcut to:

Target: "C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\LaunchGTAIV.exe" -norestriction

This allows you access to tweak all the gfx settings regardless of how much Vram your card has so should allow you to strike a better balance than the game auto configures.

Also hit the P key ingame to enable the Blur filter as this removes a lot of the jaggies with no FPS loss at all. Makes it slightly blurry but nowhere near as bad as the console versions vaseline filter!!

That R* Social Club is working properly now R* have given more bandwidth to it as well so no hassle launching the game anymore.

The shortcut don't work for me..

The blur filter is awful, I'd rather take my glasses off than use that.

Simple just find the file on whatever hard disk its installed on.

LaunchGTAIV.exe right click on it and send shortcut to desktop.

Now right click on the new shortcut and look at the properties tab.

Where it says target put an empty space in then type after the LaunchGTAIV.exe part: -norestriction

And thats it apply and launch the game that way. Social club always launches regardless as its part of the way the game is designed to startup on the retail version

This is how I put it in:

"F:\Applications\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\LaunchGTAIV.exe" -norestriction

Still dont work tho.

Ok I have mildly Overclocked my cpu to 2.53 ghz instead of 2.13 and tryed the game on minimal settings ( but medium textures, and native res) and came out with this:

Xfire fps counter showed it didn't drop below 33 fps at any time, and fps also once shot up to 57 fps... Overall this isn't bad imo . Much better than I expected from such a small cpu boost.

I was running my 9600GT @ 550/850 before, a deliberate underclock to solve an issue with one game (TDU).

Running at default clocks again (650/900) added about 5fps for me in this benchmark. CPU at stock speed.

Is it only me who wont settle for Detail and View distance really low?

;)

I only use that because i really don't see a great deal of difference in game , though it isn't really low

The view distance settings I am using are supposedly the same as the Xbox 360 version. The graphics look decent on those settings too. It does run very smoothly now. I updated to the latest version of DirectX earlier, I wonder if that has helped.

Better than i thought :p

I'd post my results but that benchmark is a waste of time.

I get 10-15fps under my results when I actually play the game, and even less in multiplayer.

I'd take any in-game benchmark results with a pinch of salt, personally.
