***Official GTAV PC Thread*** [Important warning updated in the OP]

OK guys after a little advice before i get home, All my Drives are 120gb SSD's this is going to cause me an issue ? I have it preloaded on an SSD with nothing else on it (buts its 120gb)

Whats my best option to install this game now as when i get home im going to be hit with the not enough space to decrypt :(

Any advice welcome (i have plenty of space on Network drives) or spare space on other SSD's but all of them are 120gb

Backup depotcache. (encrypted preload files)
Backup \steamapps\downloading\271590 (preallocated blank files/what the game downloaded after the game unlocked)
They are both in your steamapps folder
delete gtav local content from steam. (which deletes the above)
Install gtav to new location on your HDD (you may need to let the game generate all the preallocated folders before the next step but it would probably be fine anyway since you will overwrite these)
exit steam
Make the depotcache folder \steamapps\depotcache in the new location
Drag the depotcache files into the folder, do the same for downloading\271590)
Launch steam, it finds the preload files and your download either continues from where you left off or steam goes ahead and extracts everything replacing the preallocated files in \downloading\
Then use steammover or whatever to move the 60gb game to your ssd

Sorry to tell you this but you will not be able to play it :(
It needs 120gb to unpack then reverts back to 60gb when complete :/
And as 120gb drives usually show up as 111gb then you have problems.
I had a spare 256gb drive so I installed steam on that then copied the preloaded files into the steamapp folder insdie the fresh steam install on the 256gb drive. The folder you need to copy is called "depotcache".
You then just install it as normal on the fresh steam install and it will start at 99% and saves downloading it all again.

Ah that's annoying, I was hoping I could squeeze it into the remaining 85Gb on my 240Gb SSD :(

The actual game files in the downloading folder are just the preallocated files all the encryped preload files you downloaded are the depotcache, it overwrites the pre allocated game files when it decrypts them

Backup depotcache.
delete gtav local content from steam.
Install gtav to new location.
exit steam
Make the depotcache folder \steamapps\depotcache
Drag the depotcache files into it
Restart steam.

It will show as having however much downloaded that you had before steam hit 12:00 and decrypted, then it will start the process of decrypting the files which is what ate everyones hdd space as it moved the binaries etc into \steamapps\downloading\271590

Then use steammover or whatever to move the 60gb game to your ssd

To be safe you might want to back up \steamapps\downloading\271590 as well cos now the preload is over you just download everything in their directly so some of your downloaded data may be those files if you didn't get the full preload before midnight

Thanks for posting that, I haven't actually bought the game yet but this could come in handy when I do :)

Sorry to bring this up again guys but I can't see the bonus money when I check for it in game in single player mode. When I started the game for the first time it went through everything I think it should including getting me to enter the code and activate it as shown below but I still can't see the cash. Is there something else I need to do?

This screen popped up while I went through things initially and I hit 'Activate':-

Mine didn't show up until after I had quit the game and logged back in post-prologue. Give that a shot.

Is anyone using AMD and have the stupid Gaming Evolved app? GTAV isnt showing up for me in the app, so I cant use it's optimisation settings. I downloaded the latest drivers last night when they announced them.

lol you would ask wouldn't you... So are you jumping on the PC version?

Hahahahaha, I assumed you would have been killing him all the time. Seems I was correct. :D :D

My laptop is ancient so probably wouldn't even run the installer :D and I am a way of building a PC just yet, I'll be sticking on my PS4 version for now, just interested to see the performance so I can get an idea of what parts to use.

Traffic seems to be bugged online :p

I love the woman giving you the bird.

That's why I love this game, the citizens give it right back to you.

Cheers, worked a treat!

Got to say this is running smooth as butter on my system at 1920x1080. No idea what FPS I'm getting and I just let the game set everything it wanted to, haven't fiddled with any settings as yet. My system is an i7 920 D0, GTX760 and 16Gb RAM for info. :D
