hmm is it safe to flash GPU bios?

Never done it before, is there instructions?

Will it help at all with speed, if the gpu is untouched (ie not overclocked)?

Also the F4 bios seems newer than the F12?

hmm maybe you guys got lucky using the F4 bios.

From this page it says you have to use the bios from the same series of you current bios.

Thats why there is an F4 and an F12, both are new depending on the bios series your card is currently using.

Then again I could be wrong, but thats what I understand from what is written.

Its not clear at all.

It says on this page:

Please note:

You can only update to a VBIOS version of the same series.

If your VBIOS version is:

F1, it can only be updated with VBIOS versions F2-F9.

F10, it can only be updated with VBIOS versions F11-F19.

F20, it can only be updated with VBIOS versions F21-F29.

etc.

---

My current bios is this 80.04.19.00.0F

Just to let you know if you use the VGA@BIOS utility it tells you which bios your using, and based on that you choose which bios of the two to update too!

I'm using F1 bios, so F4 bios update is for me.

This is why I went with Gigabyte for my mobo and GPU. I had previous experiece with a cheap mobo, that even for something cheap, they where still updating bioses and drivers etc... where as Asus, abandoned me. For 2 years I was running Win 7 beta drivers on my x48 mobo.

Is anyone noticing significant differences between OC'ing the reference GTX670 on air as opposed to water? Or are these factory OC air-cooled variants already at the limit?

I already have a KFA2 GTX670 OC and considering either buying a 2nd one to put in SLi now, or going to a reference board with full cover waterblock to add to my custom loop and and doing the OC job myself. I can find a home for my existing card in my son's 2500k based gaming rig and he'll welcome an upgrade from his reference unlocked 6950/6970.

Interested to know what folks think.

I guess what I really wanted to know was there much more OC headroom to be gained from watercooling?

I'm not too bugged about SLi but it would be nice, but more interested in the OC potential of a single card. If I'm buying another card now (largely for epeen reasons ofc) then would much rather get it integrated into my loop if it made sense, otherwise just stick with the aircooled solution and go SLi now, but I was ultimately thinking about getting another card in a few weeks time anyway.

iirc a member called pgi947 watercooled a GB 670 and made no difference in the card's oc limits. its in this thread around page 60 or 70 or close to that

Thats exactly the feedback I was after. Thanks.

I guess I can see whether an upgrade to my son's 6950 might be the justification to have a shift around and buy a new card. If I'm buying another 670 then might as well order it with a fullcover block anyway, although it would limit where I could utilise that card in the future.

Is this 3D Mark performance test score ok for my Windforce? (everything at stock).

Score
P8191 3DMarks with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670(1x) and Intel Core i5-2500 Processor
