***Official GTX 670 thread***

Boost sets my clock to 1250 MHz, stable for continous heaven loops if the temperature stays below 69 degrees.

1250 Mhz would be stable even at 90 degrees. Why should I have to have it reduced due to a virus?

So the fan runs quieter, is it really hard to understand? If you want the fan running at 80% for an extra 2% then knock yourself out.

Should have bought the 7970 or the 680 if you want that extra performance.
Changing cards and all that will have cost you the same.
I dont think you will be any further ahead with another 670.

You make a very good point, changing cards is not worth the cost of sending mine back. I know this and that why I've not done it yet

I'll simply be blaming myself for next year or two for having bought the KFA2 instead of the Gigabyte.

Kind of hoping and not hoping this is true.

If true = I want to see 1500+ core clocks asap please:eek: plus I will be spending more money on watercooling the card(s). Mrs unhappy.

If not true = Save some money and enjoy the card as is. Mrs happy.

Its just a theory, if you read up on watercooled 680's you'll find conflicting posts of some saying they gained an extra 100+, some saying they gained nothing. Gibbo did say that 'good clocking 670's' may see near 1500mhz under water, what this is based on I'm not sure.

The card was going to go under water regardless, it will just rule out some mystical hidden temp we can't see preventing the cards going higher.

Though I still maintain the 1.175v limit is what is holding these cards back, not temps. The only way seemingly to higher clocks is a modded bios, I'm sure I read somewhere that the limit for GK104 is something like 1.210v, so 1.2v would yield some far greater clocks IMO.

YES IT DOES!!!

ATI 5770s and GTX 560 Tis overclocked to 1 Ghz STAY AT 1 GHZ under maximum load regardless of temperature.

GTX 670 overclocked to 1250 Mhz THROTTLES to 1228 Mhz when it hits 80 degrees.

It doesn't matter if you find this clock speed reduction to be meaningless, THAT IS YOUR OPINION. I don't want my maximum overclocks being reduced in situations that could use them due to the GPU boost virus.

1228 is your maximum benchmark clock.

My fans can maintain <85 degrees at low RPM, 1250 Mhz and 1.175v. I have to set them excessively higher to maintain <70 than I would have to set them for <85.

Your personal opinions on this issue are completely wrong and you don't understand the problem at all.

1228 is your maximum benchmark clock.

Then why can I loop 5 heaven runs at 1250 Mhz at under 69 degrees?

1250 is my maximum clock, 1228 is my clock after a virus reduces it.

Ok, screenshots since you obviously refuse to read the entire thread:

3 looped heaven runs done twice in a row (for 6 runs total) to test stability:

Trying to reduce the fan because I actually dont mind slightly higher temperatures than 70-80 degrees for no fan noise:

^^ There you go, clear evidence of the GPU boost virus throttling my card below its safe maximum overclock.

I'll simply be blaming myself for next year or two for having bought the KFA2 instead of the Gigabyte.

LOl I had a Gigabyte card payed for I thought, but apparently the payment never processed. It was too late when I realized, and the Gigabyte cards were gone.
I rushed and ordered the Galaxy/KFA2, but later seen the Gigabyte cards instock again.
I thought my card would be here today, but it's not. It will be here tomorrow.

Personally, I would recommend both of you to return your cards and get the Gigas as it's £15 ish (including cost of returning to OcUK) and another year's warranty

My max stable clocks when benchmarking Heaven is 1328 MHz :D
Fun is spinning at 62% and max temp I am getting is 66C.
Also max stable when paying ie. BF3 is 1328 MHz.

3Dmark 11 max stable is 1349MHz, but I am quite sure I can do a bit more.

My galaxy/KFA2 has 2 year warranty, and then you add another year if you register in 30 days.

But what if I get a worse card than 1250 / 7200?

I dont know if I'll even keep this for two years, I dont think I'll be SLIing it as I initially planned and can just sell it and get the next card instead.

Hmm no, the registration is just to enable the 2 year warranty. But two years is more than enough for me. £15 for a gigabyte replacement at this point is not worth it for me, I wont even keep the card for 3 years.

True, but what are the chances? :p

All this batch seem to OC really well; what if you get a better one?!

Well you have 2 choices.. keep the fan at 30 and deal with the small speed reduction or bump it up a bit and keep it full speed. Nvidia decided to throttle it once it reaches are certain temp so it must have been done for a reason. It's throttled to prevent the temperature rising any higher. Personally I wouldn't like my card running at 80 degrees if I could do something about it.

oh really, i didn't know that.

Do you have a source for that?

Did you buy the Galaxy or the KFA2?

They may be the same cards but their warranties are different.

Look here for KFA2:

I got the Galaxy GTX 670 GC

I checked too, and the KAF2's just got the two. That's nuts.

Galaxy has an overclocking tool, but not sure how good it is.

This is in responce to a post above

Gigabyte sold 10 times as many cards. Sure you will see a lot of high boost speeds, but if you look, there are just as many with so called duds.
