****Official GTX580 user reviews/benchmarking/overclocking thread****

What is the easiest way to find my max oc ?
What comes 1st in terms of clocks ie set gpu to highest then work mem to work with max core ?

Theres really only one way, start with the core speed and just work your way up until it crashes or displays artifacts, increase voltage slightly and try again Try 25MHz at a time and test using Heaven bench or even vantage.

Do core speed speed, then memory.

Never set it to highest first unless you want to cause damage.

just a question, do all these cards have voltage adjustments in MSI Afterbuner?

was going to buy Asus, but it's always out of stock on cheaper competitor sites, and don't really want to pay before knowing *might* arrive "soon". will KFA2 gtx580 allow me to overclock using MSI Afterbuner?

Thanks mate
So leave the mem at stock until I find max core that's right yeah ?

Well when I'm first testing I prefer to find the max core speed take note then test the memory, bascially test them individually and once you've found max core and memory then test them together.

Last thing you want are crashes and have no idea which is causing the problem. ;)

I used Vantage GPU tests and compare scores and to check stability, but if you looking for more than just benchmark stable try Crysis or something simalar.

/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ If that KFA2 sells vidcards, I'd lose that link pretty sharpish if I were you, against the rules see.:)

EDIT: Just noticed Ocuk sell KFA2 vidcrads so ignore previous:)

ive installed my gtx 580 in the top pci-e slot on my p6t-se but its only running @8 instead of pci-e x16 any ideas as to why this is,ive the latest bios and the latest gpu-z version

I wonder are most of these 580 core speeds users are posting are 24/7 speeds or just for benching. For instance i can run at 830mhz with no voltage tweak and use this day to day. And 850mhz with a very small voltage tweak and still auto fan profile but the increase in temps is not worth it. And finally if I manually up the fan speeds and keep them constant and up the voltage to just below 1.1v I can achieve 900mhz plus. I have not tested beyond that. I find 830mhz in sli is enough for any gaming situation I have come accross. Even stock is fine.

So I'm wondering would it not be better to post what benches people are getting on there day to day settings. I seriously doubt anyone is playing games at 900mhz plus core unless watercooling or have their fan speed at 85%.

Exactly.

Try those 900+ clocked settings running under Furmark for an hour and I can assure you it wont be stable on air ;)

by similar logic that all cards are same, buying Palit will be the same as KFA2 right? anyone know where are Palit's RMA based?

i have found a Palit card that i can pick up without messing about with stupid couriers.

edit: Palit looks like there is no RMA service. have to return to retailer. which it sucks.

Asus & EVGA are the best brands to get. Asus do a 3 year warranty & have an auto voltage overclock feature which is also covered by the warranty ;)

EVGA obviously give a 10 year warranty but supply will always be limited in UK as USA/Germany are EVGA biggets markets so get most of the stock allocation ;)

I wouldn;t knock Pallit cards having to go back to the retailer as at least you are sending to a uk address.

EVGA I used to swear by but no longer. Having to pay over £20 to get it shipped to Germany and waiting 8 weeks for a replacement has taken the shine off EVGA warranty in my eyes. Throw in the fact that if you send a card back to EVGA with the slightest bit of dust inside the cooler then they reject your warranty is another killer in my eyes. Having to take the cooler to bits to clean the card is asking too much.
