****Official GTX580 user reviews/benchmarking/overclocking thread****

I saw the printscreen but you gpu-z screen just tells me your 1st gpu is running at 16x. You have to select the 2nd gpu in the drop down box at the bottom of the screen, then the screen refreshes and it shows you the info again but this time for the 2nd gpu. Would appreciate if you could check for me. I'd really like to know if the 2nd gpu is running at 16x or 8x when the bottom red slot is populated with a soundcard. Ta.

Same except I ordered two to replace my gtx470's in SLI.

I promised myself these would do for ages and the gtx580 wasn;t worth the money but if they come at £311 each, I can;t resist.

My pair of 470s came in not much more than £311 lol and with a good overclock they are only 20% behind an overclocked 580 SLI setup on average.

I know. I got my gtx 470's for £310 as well. Waterblocks cost me another £95 so £410 in total.

Even though my head said I was mad, I just couldn;t resist the gtx580's at £311 each.

Surprised the difference isn;t greater in performance. I know my gtx470's beat a single gtx580 by a good margin, just expected a 900+ gtx 580 in SLI to **** all over my gtx470s

Have I made a big mistake?

Indeed you have, However redemption is as easy as sending both of the 580's to me and I'll test them in 3xSLI for you..... :D

No you haven't made a mistake,580 sli at 900mhz@core will beat a 470 OC sli by some margin.

Correct me if in wrong somebody :p

I hope so. For starters the gtx580 will be clocked 10% higher than my gtx470's at least. Clock per clock the gtx580 is 10% to 15% faster than a gtx480 so 20% to 25% faster than a gtx470.

So overall I reckon at least 30% to 40% and maybe more.

Still not good value for money though, 100% more cost (with waterblocks) for a 30% gain. Starting to think I was mad.

I suppose if they do arrive at £311 each I should be able to move them on for a small profit since they are £445 on ocuk?

Dont forget you can get at least half your money back by selling your 470s

I know but say I get £400 for my gtx470's with waterblocks, it's still almost another £400 for the gtx580's with waterblocks :(

My problem was I got my gtx470s so cheap. I suppose if your were looking at £300 each inc waterblocks then £600 vs £800 makes it a much better comparison.

Do you have to watercool the 580s?

They run pretty cool with the stock fan.

Dont forget the place you ordered the cards from, there will be an option where you can cancel your order if your having second thoughts

I know. Serious thinking needed to be done over the weekend. Not sure even air cooled whether the gain is going to be worth it.
