****Official GTX580 user reviews/benchmarking/overclocking thread****

I know. I got my gtx 470's for £310 as well. Waterblocks cost me another £95 so £410 in total.

Even though my head said I was mad, I just couldn;t resist the gtx580's at £311 each.

Surprised the difference isn;t greater in performance. I know my gtx470's beat a single gtx580 by a good margin, just expected a 900+ gtx 580 in SLI to **** all over my gtx470s

Have I made a big mistake?

I think part of the problem is maybe CPU horsepower, but even so in Heaven 2.1 benchmark which is almost purely GPU bound and scales well my pair of 470s @ 800MHz weren't hideously behind a pair of 580s at 830MHz (IIRC 20% lower in min fps, 16% in average and a little more in max). If you can get 900+ OC on the 580s then the gap is bigger.

EDIT: I would still say the 470 SLI isn't in the same league as 580 SLI but for the price difference its not hideously outmatched.

cpu horsepower shouldn't be a problem since I have an i7 950 at 4.5Ghz. But your right about the price differnce especially if you got your gtx470's cheap.

so i see its possible to run it 900 mhz 24/7 with minor volt adjustment .whats your shader and memory speeds and whats the fan speed on that clock ?

hopefully they i get my 580gtx for 311 £ fingers crossed

They sold so many @ that price if they didn't honour it i reckon it could make it onto the news and a lot of people would be whining lol.

Loll I've contacted them twice to get them to check for any discrepancies and they said it's all correct, so fingers crossed.

Of course the easy way out for them would be to keep pushing the stock date back indefinitely, so people get fed up and start cancelling orders :p

Even at £311 I;m still not sure I have made the right decision in buying two of them

Somebody persuade me that I have before I cancel my order?

at £311 I would see if they deal you the goods, crazy price for the fresh 580. You could easily make £60 profit if you decide to sell a card.

It's only £22 more than buying 2 480s? Give or take roughly 20 quid depending on the site.

It's only pure speculation at the moment I know, but the 6970 may only be marginally faster and I'd have a guess at it coming in at around the £380 mark.

In your price range the 6990 is the one to look out for, but that comes out in January so it just depends if you can wait :p

On top of that, it's still debatable as to whether we'll actually get the card for that price lol Even if my order falls through though, it means I can take a look at the 69xx release and will hopefully be buying from here if the stock doesn't all go.

I definitely made the right decision (and so did you!) to order 3 of em for 3 screen gaming ... only issue I have is whether to pull the tigger or not on this item http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-131-AN&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1088 and flog the Corsair HX1000 in case they don't get delivered :D

My experience with 5970+5870 was not satisfactory on 3x1080p tbh so here's hoping.

I'm tempted to get two 580gtx but i think i want the smoothness again of single GPU and to be fair i play WOW a lot which nvidia runs that game better then ATI and black ops which does fine on single 580 plus other games lol:) i need a life xD
