****Official GTX580 user reviews/benchmarking/overclocking thread****

im in the same dilemma as i wanted all amd rig but that price is to good to be true , even if 6970 faster and around 300 quid we loose out less then people who bought the card at higher price. im thinking maybe to sell the card straight away then i will get some profit, but if 6970 and its slower would be a bit of a bummer.

edit: ta for clock speeds Sean

Core 900, shader 1800, stock fan profile with temps staying sub 75c, I've left the memory speeds alone for now.

Core 930 with 1.100 is so far proving stable.

Ah come on...stock fan profile and your gpu stays sub 75C with 900 core. I find this very hard to believe unless your ambient room temps are very very low. I've only seen people get sub 75C with fan set to close to 80% when running 900+ core on stuff like Heaven.

Edit...I just saw you mentioned you tested on a very cold night..lol

Meant to do this ages ago but finally got around to doing it. Upgraded from a [email protected] to an i7 920 @ 4.02, just did some comparison benchmarks for anyone who is in the same sort of situation and wondering if they should upgrade.

Obviously, there is bottlenecking happening on the Q6600. While it may not be a hugely massive amount, it's quite a gain you get. With a higher clocked Q6600 the gap would be smaller, but there aren't a large club of Q6600's out there that got to 3.6+

All in all, I think the upgrade was worth it

Thanks for that
Not really a massive difference other than perhaps Vantage.

Notice that on crysis/heaven, the min fps are much better although the average fps are quite similar at approx +6fps in favour of the I7.

Also bear in mind that the I7 has a larger 0.7 GHz OC which needs factoring in.
Would be very interesting to see the I7 tested at 3.3GHz:)

tbh, i'm mulling over the possibility of upgrading to an I7 setup as I suspect I could probably sell the Q6600/mobo/ram for something like £100-£120.

This will reduce the cost of the I7 upgrade + cooler to approx £330

I think overall you are correct in stating that the upgrade was worth it:)

Well I sold my CPU/RAM/Mobo for about £200, so I'm sure you could get more maybe. It makes the hit of upgrading cost a lot less in real money ;)

As much as that:eek:
Not sure i'll get much for the mobo though.
Works fine but due to the stupid toggle release on the PCI-E slot, I couldn't properly seat my 8800GTX (EVGA ACS version) so melted the toggle off:D

All works fine & card is never going to fall out but I suspect will knock a few quid off:)

Higher min fps will make a much bigger difference in real world gaming than avg fps and i'm shocked by the min in heaven on the Q6600, something must have gone wrong there even if it only last for a split second!

It would be interesting but not very relevant as i7 pretty much all seem to do 4GHz so no one is likely to upgrade and run it at only 3.3GHz.

my gtx580 is able to run happily at 1.088v, 900MHz on core. could have done 1.075v, but i nudged voltage up a notch just to be sure.

tested using EVGA tool by Raven. thanks. and also with Crysis. any other tool worth trying?

the throttling seems to be related to temperature. i got last night back after a weekend away, i had turned off heating before i left, so the place was pretty cold, there wasn't any throttling on Furmark.

3 of these badboys will blow your mind

I had 3. And got rid of 1 last week. Sold to friend. The almost doubling of noise levels was not worth it. The vapor chamber really heats up, and the fans go from idling at 40% in sli to almost 55%-60% in 3 way depending on ambients, and regularly hit 80% fan speeds under load, even when gaming. HardOCP found the same and now I have. Not acceptable considering they stay in low 60's in SLI. Besides watercooling the ONLY board which can seem to run 3 of these with 1x slot spacing between each card is the MSI Eclipe Plus but that has a woeful amount of bios issues looking on the MSI forums.

Allready delayed from dispatch 29th to 30Th today so they will prob carry on this trend till the end of time but we never know... i'm not cancaling thats for sure lol.

it always was 30th.

oh my bad says 29th for me still im not sure how they can dispatch at 29th f stock only arrives 30th

Have they taken the money from your card ? When you put through your offer on line, if they charged your card there and then, then that means they accepted your offer to treat. So a contract has been formed. However if you card is only pre-authorised and they have not drawn down the money, or if they have not charged your card they can reject your offer. They can also say the goods are out of stock and refund you if they have charged your card. Sneaky but not much you can do about it other then complain to advertising standards.

No, they don't charge at time of preorder
