Official Home Gym Building Thread

Ha, you really did order the last one. Decided you didn't need the arms? I've not needed them for years, my strength is always ahead of my numbers, but its great piece of mind having them, especially as I know in the next 2-3 months I'm going to be working much closer to my maximum.

It's really only for safety but I can't see myself doing 1RM at home anyway, I'd just go to a gym and do them. Can't justify £190 for very little added benefit.

I rarely get to bench in a rack so just forgo clips; if on my last set I misjudge my RPE and fail (yet to happen but I’ve had some ugly grinders when I thought I had one more comfortable rep...) I’d just tip the bar to one side and the plates would slide off one side then gravity will flip and tip the bar the other way and the rest would come off. Bit crashy and will attract unwanted attention, but better than stapling myself!

No clips might be an issue if you bench enough to make the bar whip(!) or have some glaring asymmetry in your pressing where one arm comes up faster than the other but otherwise shouldn’t be an issue.

@LiE do you ever have issue with your dip attachment to your Bulldog rack? I used it for the first time yesterday, but it really flexes the whole rack, making me worried that its going to bend or break it. I tried it both facing forwards and into the rack, but it just didn't seem stable at all.

Wanted to see if yours was the same

Yep, I found that the bolts have a couple mm play in them which causes the upright part of the rack to move. What I did was upgrade 2 of the bolts on the side I dip. The holes are 18mm and the bolts are m16 spec. I got 2 m18 bolts from Accu.co.uk

Make sure you have a 27mm socket to get these nice and tight.

Top 2 are the big boys. Stops it from leaning towards you significantly.

I need a couple more 25kg plates. Powerhouse fitness have them in stock and they are charging £79 per plate, I checked an invoice I had for 2 last Jan and they were £79 for 2. I can't bring myself to buy them. I get the shortages and ebay sellers gouging but major companies like that, it's just distasteful.

I think my Origin 25kg plates were about £95 - those were the rubber versions too, not even the urethane. I do love the handles on them and they are still quite thin too, certainly such that I won't fill the bar.

Cool, thank you. Will keep an eye on stock

I filled the bar yesterday on deadlift with all my 2.5kg and 5kg on there just to get the weight up. Managed to fail on 190 though :(

Well after months and months of gradually plugging away at it (new baby arriving certainly slowed things down!) things are finally coming together and I've got the garage prepared:

It's not the biggest space in the world but should be able to make it work. You can see the results of my haul from FB Marketplace... don't think I'm going to keep the rower (it's a bit weird, just using bungee cord resistance so feels strange to use, but it was free)... The lat pulldown in the corner attaches to the bench but that also will be replaced eventually with a dedicated solution

Our new exercise bike just turned up today so looking forward to putting that together :D

I still haven't bought any rubber mats. And today I was doing deadlifts, a ceiling light came off its fixtures.

I think I need to order them today. Arkmats was the place I think.

Has anyone had issues with receiving items from fitness superstore? I placed an order or some plates last Monday which were said to be in stock and still not heard anything.
