Official Home Gym Building Thread

Cheers... though as above they don't have everything in stock so I can't buy a full set (I would want a full set of pairs so basically a 150kg set). It's kind of stubborn/irrational but I feel like not buying it all at once makes it likely that they might discontinue that set and I'll end up with a mish mash of different plates from different places. I'm unlikely to ever replace them or buy more so I'd like to get a nice neat set (but will probably mean waiting longer)

It’s worth noting that the Origin branded plates have been going for years and years, hard to imagine then suddenly changing the line. Of course you do run the risk of another line of plates coming into stock while you wait for the batch you’ve committed to. The origin plates often come in stock quickly and in multiple weights, but you have to jump on them quickly in my experience. They are more likely to have the urethane variant left in stock due to the price.

I'm also looking to upgrade my home gym. Currently got an old York bench and a random assortment of plates collected over the years, plus an old school multigym.

Looking for replace it all for:

A rack - managed to get this - https://www.aldi.co.uk/wellactive-multifunction-power-rack/p/00000064383300#product-reviews

An adjustable bench

Olympic barbell

Olympic weights

Keep looking on mira fitness, fitness warehouse and powerhouse - but struggling to get anything in stock and reasonably priced. Ebay and Facebook are crazy at the moment!

Has anyone found anything recently?

If you're in no rush I'd drop your email into the notification box on Mirafit. They appear to be one of the few places that haven't jacked up the prices.

I imagine every single store in the UK is trying to get as much stock as possible and it takes time to come via container from China. Bulldog Gear make a lot of their own stuff in the UK so they do have more frequent stock updates.

Iron King keeps tickling my fancy. (https://www.ironking.uk.com/)

Again faster are not in stock until Feb.

Rogue are more expensive again.

Anyone know of any others?

I was looking for a folding rack that had the most standardised upright dimensions, that was I could possibly swap and interchange attachments and extensions. But they all seem to be slightly different measurements ( 70x70, 80x80 etc). Crafty sods :(

48s arrived. I had assumed they were the exact same style as my current 26, 34 and 42.5, but they appear to have changed. The 48s look much smarter and have a straight handled instead of a slight contour found on my other pro style. Pretty decent for £180 delivered.

@LiE I had stumbled across that rack, same dimensions as rogue but not sure about hole spacing.

RE the 48's. Your now going to want to swap your other DB's to straight handles :D

Ah yes, those are the DBs we had in my local gym. Always liked those, comfortable to use all the way up to 50.

My Bulldog order is arriving tomorrow - now I just need them to stock the rack!

Nice! I’m trying to see if I can buy the bar across the top of that rack for mine. Would be useful for pull ups and some other movements.

You sold the model to me with the pictures you posted some time back. It looks really solid and your pictures were much better than those on their website.

Looks like they've taken the '15 day to ship' message off the page, so fingers crossed it'll ship quickly. I think even during the first lockdown I only waited a week.

I bought a 2-bar vertical gunrack from Bulldog on Monday and it got here this morning, which was very fast. Now just need Mirafit to get the Women's bar in stock for the wife (they actually got a couple in stock recently but holding out for the one that matches my bar, lol)

It is solid, yours will be stronger with the top bar. I would have bought the one you have if I had the height. Still going to try and buy the top bar separately if I can.

spotter arms came today. They are solid. Going to buy the uprated bolts for the other side of my rack now I have the arms. Way too much play.

Bulldog sure are shipping quickly - I think partly because they have so little stock left to ship.

I nearly ordered the rack without the pullup bar, but once I measured realised that the bar will go over the top of my roof struts - fortunately they are right on the outside edge of it, so don't get in the way of any pullups themselves. That's a good point, it should add some additional stability (and a tiny bit of extra weight along with the additional height). I'll then keep my plates piled on the back of the base to add some extra weight. It'll be a lot easier than my current rack that a) I have to walk out further from since the base enters where I would put my feet b) moves around meaning I have to reposition all the time and c) I nearly trip over the legs that go partly across the walk up area.

This is my current rack - https://bulldoggear.com/products/bssr-i-bulldog-series-squat-rack - to be fair its stood up to over 250kg, but it doesn't feel overly safe anymore.

One adjustment I'll have to do is cut out a small section from my deadlift platform meaning I'll have to deadlift a few inches further forward. So essentially I'm going to continue my 20mm flooring directly under the base that will extend slightly into my 40mm deadlift platform. I'll post some pictures when its done. It should also stop my flooring moving around if I can cut it snugly.

I don't know how Bulldog justify £180 for a pair of spotter arms... the Mirafit M2 arms were £60 and they are absolutely solid, there really can't be that much of a difference. Either way I suppose you get something that's going to last but still
