Official Home Gym Building Thread

Typical.. Ive finally got the money together to get the Ironmaster Dumbbells and they don't have anymore stands left in stock.. 5-6 weeks haha

:(

Showing in stock on the website, guess their stock is out.

You will probably get the new version though. I bought mine around a month or so ago and they're slightly glossy black, the new version is like a matt black that is more chip resistant.

Ignore that just compared mine to the photos and they're the new version anyway. (paint does chip easy though)

paint chips away on all weights/equipment, you should be re-furbing your equipment on a regular basis in order to keep it in tip top condition and last longer.

i think once every 5 years should be enough if you do it properly, but it depends on how often you use the equipment, how it is treated, the conditions and environment in which it is kept.

there is a refurb guide here within this thread, very easy to do, and costs nothing compared to the cost of the equipment.

if you look at the before and after pic's of my dumbells you can see the difference.

i'm terrible at DIY as well, so i'm sure some of you guys could do a much better job at re-furbing equipment.

I ended up ordering them anyways. The dumbbells will be here tomorrow, ill just have to wait a bit for the stand.

Cancelled my gym membership on Friday (well, said I wanted to and then emailed them so I might still have more time on any contract).

After your thoughts on the following racks:
CF375 £280.00
can withstand up to 180kg (more than enough for me)
is cheap
has a lat/pulley option
-ve
can't take a weight stack attachment

CF475 £350.00
+ve
can withstand up to 360kg (more than enough for me)
is cheapish
has a lat/pulley option

F430 £430.00
+ve
looks good and stronger than the above two

Powertec workbench power rack £450.00
+ve
Looks similar to the F430, just £20.00 more
-ve
costs extra for the dip bars

Body-Solid Commercial Power Rack £569.00
Looks goos and solid, but so it should at that money.
-ve
no chin-up/dip extensions? (I assume chin up is done using the thin bar at top).

My powertec came with dip bars in the box but it is the older model.

Get the most expensive you think is worth it. This thread already has info on all of those racks. Personally I would go powertec.

No stack options, does come with dip bars. Can't see why it would be a problem using oly plates.

It won't be a problem. Just wanted to make sure.

Sticking a pin in a stack will be less hassle than swapping plates about, but it's no deal-breaker.

The Powetec the one to go for then? It does seem to have a lot of accessories for the equivalent bench too.

It's a really good bit of kit, the catchers and hooks are solid and the pull up bars are great. Add in the lat tower option and you've really got a great set up.

personally i think it's the best all rounder. it does everything and for a decent price too.

people usually go for the powerhouse fitness racks and equipment because money is an issue, but tbh it pays to spend a little more initially.

better rack, dip bars, pull up bars, lat pulley option, looks great too.

the body solid one is probably overkill, although a better rack, gymratz make even better racks and i have another company in my bookmarks somewhere that make the best in the UK, but they are so expensive they would bring a tear to your eye.

you can't go wrong with the powertec, so it should be an easy option tbh.

changing weights on the pulley isn't a huge issue if you buy plates with "handles" and buy a storage rack.

it can be a pain though if you have all your weights on the ground and no handles to easily lift them around with.

Psycho, do you ask if you can pay less for your equipment as you only need a 2 year warranty instead of the standard 5 or Lifetime warranties?

After that you're all maxed out and there's no point, right?

Lol'd!

As for the rack, I would go for the Powertec or CF475.

I have the CF475 but would choose the Powertec over it now.

I also got the 475. I chose it over the powertec because it was £500 total with the lat tower and dip bars. The powertec would have been an extra 300 or 400 for the lat tower

I sold my Marcy Power 10 rack on the Bay. I forgot to put the longer safety bar in the package, but the buyer did get the standard ones.

He's now raised a dispute as I didn't provide the Olympic sleeve adapters (which weren't for sale as not stated in the description), the single handle for the pulley system (also not for sale as not stated in the description) and the longer bar catchers.

I've offered him £10 refund so he can get a welder to make him some, ideally I want to find some replacement ones but can't find any online, not even third party ones, Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
