*****Official Ivybridge Review Thread*****

Not sure if it will be decent upgrade. If you're maxing out your i5 then far enough.... if not then neck a few whiskeys like Ollie1132 and convince yourself that your upgrade is worth it :D

Woah my upgrades worth it! I mean c'mon it's all shiny and new! To be fair I did a lot of research before considering upgrading plus Im moving from a dual core e6500 skt775 processor so :)

:)

Funnily enough I was talking to a friend last night and it dawned to us that lets face it CPUs are mighty fast already... what we'll see over the next generations is more and more emphasis on IGP performance vs gains on ALU/FPU performance.

It's becoming more and more of a requirement for online browsing/video playback and rendering.

Looks like I've been suckered in

Mines worth it purely because....well..... i'm addicted to upgrading :p worth fueling the itch just for a scratch haha

The Z68s were a more refined and polished P67, and the Z77s seem to be more refinement on top of that. That seems to be why across the table all of the manufacturers boards seem to be able to clock memory high and clock IB CPUs as high as they can thermally go (at least on air).

No point upgrading from P67 unless you want to upgrade - and there's nothing wrong with that :)

Pardon my ignorance for not reading the whole thread.

I currently have a 2600k but curious if it's worth me upgrading to the 3770K? I know I won't get a massive improvement but just wondering how much I can expect...

thanks in advance

Managed to persuade a friend who barely uses his PC anymore to swap my 2500k with his 2600k for an extra £20. Bargain, don't think i'll bother going ivy now and instead use the cash to get a second monitor :)

Would have liked PCIE3.0 but it's not exactly important i guess.

10 Hours up and running my IVY bundle

So I took the hit and got my self the below:
- Intel 3770K
- G.Skill TridentX 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C10 2400MHz Quad Channel Kit
- MSI Z77A-GD65
- Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound

My Cooler is the Corsair H60 and it's all in nice Thermaltake Armor case

I am running everything in stock or rather as it was detected and I must say that I am a bit surprised to find initially my temperatures hitting 80C and 90C zone. And now with it's Eco mode being triggered, bringing the CPU down to 1596Mhz is about 54C which I still find very high.

I had the H60 working perfectly on my OCed to 3.4Ghz Q6600 before and removed it to install on this machine so I either didn't put the thermal past propely, or something is wrong with my H60 pump.

By the way if anyone get's the Z77-GD65 motherboard can you tell me if ClickbiosII and ControlCentre work ok for you, as mine just crashes on Win7 64 :) Which might be another problem.

I would say look at the CPU temperature rather than the core temperature and if it is also very high then your cooler isn't working properly.

If it wasn't for Console Games holding back PC games we could be seriously stressing our PC's at this point.
