** Official ** January 2010 Transfer Thread- Rumours & Speculation in here

Really can't understand the Campbell deal, very odd. He looked very poor at Portsmouth imo.

Wenger being a cheapskate?

I think Wenger doesn't want to spend money, and because he knows this close to a World Cup some players won't want to move.

By some players I mean the good ones, who won't want to ruin their chance of a World Cup starting place.

Liverpool Echo are reporting that Liverpool say the Chamakh deal is not true.

Well that's a surprise :p

Like Pigeon said, the first thing that came into my mind when I read the article was it's just a PR stunt by the Yanks to take the attention off them after the email stuff.

I thought Chamakh was a free agent this summer? If that £25m figure is remotely true, no wonder Wenger was so resistant to ponying up the cash for him.

That £25 000 000 figure is made up of five years worth of wages (at £60/week), and a big signing on fee. I can't be bothered to look at the article again, but that's how they got the figure.

I think they just pulled it out of their arses.

On the off chance its good, haven't they learned that players who wait to go on a free just to get themselves a huge pay day, rarely works out well.... Babel wasn't free but apparently he had a contract that meant he'd get a decent wedge of his transfer fee, which is why they wanted more for him than Wenger and several other people were willing to pay.

Either way, at £60 a week he'd be a steal, even if he's not very good, £60k though, on a rather unproven older player seems a fairly big risk.

I also find it funny that people expect their owners to stump up 10's of millions they don't have to if they don't want to, while constantly attacking them, calling them names, telling them they are scum and begging for them to leave.... they asking them to spend their own money, again, and again, and again.

If the Pompie thing turns out to be true, that the main guy has now invested 40million, and he's getting flack from the fans you can understand the group saying its rather hard to stay motivated to invest when the fans are calling for blood.

Same deal at Newcastle, a guy comes in, bails them out of trouble, spent a lot of money, got the manager the fans wanted who loaded the club with a wage bill it couldn't cope with on players who weren't worth it. Ashley saved the club from going under, lost a shedload of his own cash doing so and all he gets is attacked for it. He came in, saved the club invested loads but is hated because he had millions and didn't invest every single penny he had and Newcastle ended up going down a league. Where as had he not bought they may well have gone out of existance altogether, which is just forgotten in the mix.

Liverpool/utd are slightly different, they were put into debt to fund the takeover, but the its still rather rich to call them all the names under the sun, then beg for them to spend their money on new players.

£25 million on a player out of contract in the summer? I call BS.

Read the story and post just above yours.

£25 million is the worth of the deal over 5 years with a signing on fee of £12 million and the rest spent on £60k wages.

I still think it will be a PR stunt from the septic tanks, I await the start of next season after our 'big' summer spending spree.

Either they are just spouting the same BS they always have come out with or the deal with the Arabs is all but done and they will be giving us the funds to buy big.

Without viewing his post can anyone confirm whether DM has stuck up for the Americans like he usually does despite not having a clue what he's talking about?

DM

I also find it funny that people expect their owners to stump up 10's of millions they don't have to if they don't want to, while constantly attacking them, calling them names, telling them they are scum and begging for them to leave.... they asking them to spend their own money, again, and again, and again.

He did say that, which I find amusing considering it's the yanks that have openly said they will spend big in the summer.

If I were in their position, after what the Liverpool fans have come out with over the years about them, I wouldn't ever buy the ungrateful spaz's a player again and leave them to rot. DM has a point.

No he does have a point. Some fans' demands have been somewhat over the top and at times aggressive. I still haven't completely figured out Liverpool fans, but moving from a predominantly Arsenal/Spurs/UTD area to a Liverpool/Everton area they're by far the most barmy.

While the American's reply was foolish and rude, the impression that he'd just plain had enough also came to mind.
