** Official ** January 2010 Transfer Thread- Rumours & Speculation in here

Aye, bet he'll still demand a fair chunk of wages though.

I saw that it was £20k, and the highest report I've found is £40k. If it's £20k I'm happy, that's low wages by Arsenal's standard, he'd be worth nearly that for his experience, knowledge and influence imo

People are only annoyed because they're quite obviously out for a quick buck, and have failed to make good on any of their promises.

Same with every business owner ever?

The only thing I really look at is the constant abuse/whining from Liverpool fans that they never get any money etc. next, I look at how much Wenger has had to spend in the same time, I then try and imagine why every Arsenal fan in the world hasn't already murdered Arsenal's board. Or maybe, just maybe, the Liverpool fans are over-reacting?

I think it's wrong what the owners have done at Man Utd and Liverpool and all the other clubs like that, but it should never have been allowed in the first place.

As an Arsenal fan I'm proud of the lack of resources Wenger has worked with and still kept the team competitive. Then again I'm not obsessed by money and don't think it's the answer to everything in the world.

Arsenal haven't been loading the club with (non-football) debt... and they've pulled their finger out and provided the club with a stadium.

It's possible to be a good owner... Randy Lerner doesn't drop a bollock every five seconds, and just quietly supports the manager.

Edit :: (Because of your edit). I wouldn't care about a lack of funds if there was investment in a stadium, but instead there's a lack of heavy investment in the playing squad, but also a lack of investment in the future (in terms of facilities).

Oh, I didn't know the Liverpool fans were so deeply concerned about the clubs finances, I thought it was lack of transfer funds they all banged on about. My mistake

WTF? Why wouldn't we be concerned about the clubs finances given what happened to Leeds and what's happening to Portsmouth? The club don't have any stability on the pitch or off it with them in charge! Stupid comment tbh.

Whenever I see moaning it's usually 'cos they won't pay for new players, like the page before this, and why I commented on it. Bit harsh to call it stupid on those grounds.

As somebody said previously, Football clubs are not ordinary businesses.

Firstly about you're view that money is not the answer to everything etc; that's a strange thing to say considering not so long ago your single reason for why Liverpool have been more successful than Arsenal post-Benitez was 'money'.

Regarding your point in general, you're incredibly mistaken; Liverpool fans hate and abuse their owners not because they haven't given the club money but because they've actually been taking money away from the club and most importantly because they've continually lied about it too.

They promised to not put the club into debt, they promised to start work on the stadium in 60 days (nearly 3 years ago). Both nothing short of BS and they've even lied about making those promises too!

They bought the club because it was going cheap and within 6 months they were already trying to sell part of the club off for 4x the value of what they paid.

I am sure that had this happened with Arsenal your reaction would be the same.

edit: Liverpool don't need a penny from their owners, they need owners who are not taking money away from the club. We'd have been massively better off had no takeover happened whatsoever and considering how poorly we were run under Moores and Parry, that's saying something.

Riera potentially next out the door Baz or BS story?

I thought it was possible in the summer when Real and Barca were reportedly after him but the story going around at the moment is strange to say the least.

If we're asking for ~£12m for Babel then you've got to assume we'd want at least that if not a few £m more for Riera which I can't see Olympiakos being able to afford, especially as the same report says they made an offer of £5m (lol) for Benayoun.

It's probably just some nonsense article in Greece that got picked up by the Telegraph as they had nothing better/else to write.

edit: just noticed the Telegraph stole it from the Mail. It's BS.

That's the first I've heard of that.

edit: Just reading about it on RAWK, sounds like BS. 'word on the street' that only 1 person has heard :/

Why the hell would we want to sell Riera? Especially when you consider our current squad. I could easily pick another 5 players that need to be sold before him.

Without viewing his post can anyone confirm whether DM has stuck up for the Americans like he usually does despite not having a clue what he's talking about?
Actually, this one is apparently telling us how Mike Ashley was actually the best chairman ever, and not a crowd-pandering fool with repeated failures in the managerial market and an apparent lack of connections.

And how the Owners at Portsmouth are doing a great job.

Granted, £12 million is still a ridiculous fee to pay for someone who will cost nothing in 6 months time.

The £12m is the signing on fee. It goes to the player, not the club. So that £25m fee is based on him signing a pre-contract agreement for the summer, with £12m going ho him, and the rest of it is made up in wages.

Are there any credible sources of football transfer news anymore or are they all completely fabricated? I'm sick of reading absolute garbage stories on the BBC gossip page and other various websites.

Most "churnalists" just churn them out to cover space on the page.

Then if it's good enough, other lazier churnalists will pick up on it and run with it, ala Augero > Chelsea.
