** Official ** January 2010 Transfer Thread- Rumours & Speculation in here

Mancini confirmed on SSN that Robinho is in talks with Sao Paulo and Santos about a 6 month loan. £32m to a loan deal in a year - sweet!

Good riddance....the guys a complete utter muppet...came to Man City for the money then realised what a mistake that was.

Looks like Fulham/Man Utd have agreed a deal for Smalling...so doesnt look like Arsenal will be getting him.

Meh, I don't think Fulham would announce they'd received an offer, they don't seem like that kind of club. Could be made up, easily.

Decent, now Grayson has to decide who to play in the middle out of Kilkenny, Howson and Doyle as I want Gradel on the right, Snoddy on the left, or vice versa. Howson is not a RM.

Kilkenny third name on my team sheet this season.

You need Doyle in there. Howson is a well rounded player but Doyle can do the dirty bits better, and Kilkenny, as you state, is a very important player for us this season. His range of passing starts off most of our moves.

I think Gradel will be held in reserve more often than not to be honest. Used as an impact player from the bench.

Looks good though:

Beckford
Becchio
Gradel
Kilkenny
Snodgrass
Howson
Doyle

Just need Becchio to hit a bit of form again. He was a big player for us last term.

Man Utd throwing money around for an untested Fulham defender, thats a bit bizare

He plays for us in the Europa League, and has covered for Hangeland well. I'd much rather sell Hangeland than Smalling. I just hope there is something in there for us, we need the defender, but so do Utd, we also need backup/options in midfield/attack, so hopefully (unlikely) there might be a loan our way. We did try to sign Gibson last year...

Arsenal have said they're interested, but haven't bid, same as last year for Hangeland. Although some sources have said they had £7m rejected, but Hodgson rejected claims of an approach...but he'd most likely say that anyway.

Nope, only when it's been announced from the other side generally. Problem with Smalling is, no doubt he'd be our next starting centre back, but the price we paid (~£50k), it's too much money to not accept, especially as we're cutting our squad down...just hope we sign something, we've released/sold far too many without any replacements.

Wenger should take Smalling and give Fulham Wilshere for a few months, he'd be really good there too.

I was thinking that, but he's more of a central player isn't he? With Dempsey out, could do with a goal scorer from midfield. Although I think Riise/Gera will be our left/right winger for now.

Just been announced that Newcastle have completed the signing of Wayne Routledge from QPR on a 3 1/2 year deal. Would be nice to get a defender or 2 in and a couple of strikers who know how to score goals.

He will be a central player eventually but he rarely plays there for Arsenal, usually out wide (due to his size I imagine). He's more of a creater than a goal scorer (same as every Arsenal player), but he has incredible vision, good technique and is dangerous and confident near goal, so he can be used in any attacking position really.

Diouf & Obertan was untested, Ljajic likewise (albeit we pulled the plug on that one). I think given Rio and Johnny Evans injury records and Vidic possibly off to Madrid in the summer it make perfect sense to look at defenders - christ we've been spread thin on them this season

He must be a talent if Arsenal are looking at him also and the Fulham fan on here wanted Hangeland sold ahead of him. Good move IMO

Granted though if Vidic does go we'll still need another experienced defender to come in as well as Smalling, Chiellini seems to fit that bill

"It just looks like Manchester United offered more money than us, but as long as the player has not signed anywhere it is not the end of it," said the Frenchman.

"Let's see what happens there.

"We will not come out on what we are doing exactly. It has come out [elsewhere], but that does not mean it is true. If we have anything more to tell you we will let you know."

At least it's true that they did bid..

From what Wenger has said it seems to me he's quietly confident on signing Smalling.

As if he's saying - If a deal can be agreed between the clubs, Arsenal would be Smalling's preference.

I'm kind of hoping he might stay with us, as we were the only club (after many looked at him), took him from non-league and straight into our squad/reserves. Although Arsenal/Man Utd will be very tempting, he'd get more games for us with our injuries currently, as he's our 3rd choice centre back.

Not a bad year for him though, starts games in Europe, then plays against Man City, Chelsea and a few others, then becomes a regular U21 England player (since being picked).

He'd probably be 3rd choice CB at Arsenal as well though (after this season when Sol's done).

Maybe Fulham will take him back on loan until the end of the season or something.

Aye he'd be 3rd choice at Arsenal, possibly 2nd if Gallas goes (which I'm sure he won't).

I also get the funny feeling that Wenger is confident of getting him if he wants him, but the chance to go to Arsenal if you're 16 - 21 is something you really don't pass up.

It is when Manchester United come calling

In other news we've finally got rid of Tosic, shame it's only on loan but it's a start!

I think as a younger player he'll be weighing up his chances of playing and usually they'd be greater at Arsenal.

He wouldn't have to move from London either.

I think a developing young player would be better off at Arsenal. Certainly more likely to be given a chance in the first team.

That's not taking into account that he wouldn't have to move, as he's at Fulham.

Really? During a time when it looks like Vidic is going in the summer, Ferdinand is too injury prone, Evans needs an operation and has been playing on regardless all season. If he's going to start playing anywhere, it's with Man Utd.
