** Official ** January 2010 Transfer Thread- Rumours & Speculation in here

But if that the case dude, you dont buy him!

If spurs wanted too much money then dont buy him!

£30 million could have done so much more for the team.

At the time he COULD have been worth it - and I probably said much the same when the transfer was announced, his form has disappeared since arriving at Utd

Its easy to say the above in hindsight, to be fair even despite the Veron's and Djemba - Djemba's of this world, Fergie has still got a pretty good transfer quota when all said and done (not brilliant, but he has done ok) and even Veron was undoubtedly a world class player who just wasnt suited to England and the EPL

We should drag up the posts of when his transfer was first muted, there was me and about a million other people saying this is exactly as he would turn out.
We didnt need him, he was never in a million years a good fit for the team, he has been a huge waste of time and money.

It's threads like this that make me wish I avoided the Sports Forums

People calling for Fergie's head after all he's done for the club = glory hunters tbh

I find it completely insane for me to even say this but if Fergie hasn't deserved time to sort the team out no manager in the history of the world does.

NB: This season was always going to be one of rebuilding/transition after loosing the best player in the world if people cant deal with that then dont support one club, just go from season to season 'supporting' whichever team is doing well ;)

Berbatov has to go, I cant see how anybody other than his mum can make a case for him staying at United, he has been ******* dismal.

Berbatov is a talented player but I just do not think he has the mentality for United, I had high hopes for him but looking back we really should have spent the money on a striker who would get the best out of Rooney.

I think the biggest issue with Berbatov is that he doesn't suit the team. Unfortunately we overpaid for him, way overpaid.

:D

Utd fans are really, well, insane. If you actually go back and look at last year, a huge portion of the attacks that led to goals for Ronaldo/Rooney were started by Berbatov receiving the ball and weighting a perfect ball beyond the defence either side for either to run onto. They would frequently say put it behind for Rooney to run onto ,then Ronaldo would nip in late on the far post for Rooney to cross it to and a simply goal. Berbatov was one of your best players last year, he's one of your best this year.

The fans harping on and on about him not running around as much as Tevez and Rooney seems to have persuaded Fergie to drop him and Berbatov that he's not good enough. The fact that Rooney is rarely effective when running around after the ball and Tevez was never effective.

The Utd squad is threadbare of truly quality players, with far too many "try hards" in the team. Ronaldo, as everyone on earth told Utd fans who wouldn't hear of it, made up for a HUGE number of problems with the squad. Its pretty simple, without his 30-40 goals a year there will be no champs league final or league title. The side from back to front is worse without him, and you all seem way to happy to see one of the few quality players in Berbatov leave, while crying out for Fergie to buy some better quality players.

To me, Valencia at 17mil seems a hugely worse value buy than Berbatov at 30million, if he didn't have Joe Cole's deflected goal ability he'd be an even bigger waste of space. Is it three completely off target shots that have been deflected in for him?

Utd don't really need much more to make sure they stay top 4, but to win the CL again, they need to replace what they lost, a single truly fantastic player who can make the difference when everyone else is incapable. Or they really need to start a replacing a lot of the squad with better players.

So, United keep Berbatov, a player who single handedly disrupted the best attacking side in europe with his arrival, and...............sell everybody else, including a striker that is one league goal behind the leagues top strikers.

Idiot.

Every time I've seen Valencia play he has been ****. Although I don't think anybody could really replace Ronaldo, possibly Messi but it's a toss up, both are fantastic players. For me, they should have done more to keep Cristiano.

Its deeper than that, he was gone no matter what.
Over the past 2 seasons all the pace in the side, bar Rooney (who is no whippet) has been allowed to leave, its only when Obertan comes on and gets a run at people that you can really see what the side has lost.
You had 2 relatively quick strong players who can score goals between them and put the opposition defence under constant pressure in Rooney and Tevez.
You had a player who was so quick and so good with the ball at his feet that the opposing fullback would never venture over the half way line for the majority of the time in Ronaldo.
On the Left you had Giggs who could still take a player on, and in the middle it was a case of Scholes/Carrick/Anderson getting the ball and playing it first time to anywhere ahead of them knowing that someone would either get on the end of it or would chase it down and move the game further up the pitch.

Now what happens is the defence and midfield get the ball, and there is nothing on bar Rooney, there is no threat down the wings to keep the fullbacks pushed back, and only him chasing down at the top end.
Defenders are having to work harder as they are under more pressure, the physical weakness of the midfied is exposed each and every game, and every time the ball is knocked forward, its inevitably just coming straight back at them.

Tevez was never that good for Utd - he had a decent first season (and yes due to his hectic summer and late transfer he didnt get much of a pre-season etc) which shows a lot of promise

2nd season was a significant let down and wasnt worth the amount of money being asked (and really even if we had got him for £20m transfer I dont really see him actually adding much - he was a headless chicken most of last season, lots of running about but not particularly effective).

Maybe it wont be this season - but personally think Obertan and Valencia on the wings will be pretty productive for us in the seasons to come (and Valencia is well on course for getting 10 or more goals this season which is pretty impressive for such a young / inexperienced player)

He is a LITTLE (before others go over the top) like Ronaldo in his first season at OT - able to beat defenders down the wing but no end product / running into dead ends etc or finishing with a bad cross

Im sure he will come good in the near future

I have a feeling he wont either .... but if Given really is that ****** off with Man City due to how badly Mark Hughes was treated, Utd have to TRY to sign him (very probably would never happen, but who knows)

Dont know why we didnt go for him last season before he went to City, he really is a class keeper

Watching SSN and its being reported that the Russki in charge of Chelski is willing to spend £55mill in January...looks like Aguero could be on his way to the Premiership then...i just hope he ends up being a massive flop like Shevchenko was a few yrs back:p

Will be interesting to see if Wenger buys anyone in January...i hope he buys a world class striker but i really cant see it....or someone to take over RVPs place till he gets back to fitness.

I think Wenger should go for Carlton Cole, should be in our price bracket and i think he would fit in quite well. A sneaky bid for Green and Upson wouldnt upset me either although im not sure Upson would want to come and sit on the bench again.
