Rumour: Elusive Kinect update already happened!

Kinect, Microsoft’s motion-controlled Xbox 360 video game accessory, has already received an update that is currently making the rumor rounds, according to Microsoft.

Microsoft Representative Chris Newton said the quiet Kinect update quadrupled the sensor’s accuracy and allowed Kinect to recognize finger movements and wrist angles with games that incorporate the new patch.

He said the update, which was rumored to be released in the next few weeks, was actually integrated right before Christmas.
“It was prior to Christmas, and it’s already gone through,” Newton said.

Newton said the increase in accuracy will occur by modifying Kinect’s intake of frames per second and by changing the resolution between the sensor’s two cameras.

The depth sensor used by Kinect is currently established at a limit of 30 frames per second, and its maximum resolution is 320-by-240 pixels. The update has effectively altered the peak resolution to 640-by-480 pixels, which allows Kinect to detect diminutive details concerning hand positioning, successfully quadrupling its accuracy.

He said the update affects currently released Kinect games by “making them better and more accurate.”

The update will also allow video game developers to be more precise with their games.

Re: yourshape - how intensive is it? The video shows relatively gentle exercises.

There are varying levels, I do one that lasts about 15 mins and it gets my heart rate right up and a slight sweat on. Mainly the cardio ones, perhaps you were watching the zen stuff?

It's still no substitute for "proper" exercise though, but IMO is a million times better than anything Wii Fit ever offered.

Do people rate Your Shape? I would quite like a fitness game but is it worth it? I looked at EA Fitness Active 2 as well but that seems horrendously expensive in comparison and didn't review that well.

what the hell is "proper" exercise?

Gym, going outside running etc.

i.e. not standing in front of a TV playing on a games console.

I like it, it's simple and very well presented. There's a fair few workouts once you drill down into them, but there are also a few DLC routines that are advertised in the game which is a bit annoying. As I said, it beats anything I ever tried in Wii Fit.

Lol. So exercise is defined by where you do it?

What utter tosh lol.

There's a range of gentle and more demanding routines.
I've got the new year new you dlc and the 32min routine is pretty taxing.

Whatever, have your lols...

I play Your Shape pretty much every day and enjoy it and it's no doubt helped me lose a bit of Xmas weight, but I don't consider it proper exercise purely because you are stuck in a set space in front of a TV and so are limited in what you can ultimately do.

I think that's pretty simple to understand? If you disagree, fine, but no need to say someone's opinion is "tosh".

I kind of equate Your Shape with a gym class following an instructor and in that sense it does a very good job of replicating a real exercise experience.

I do see where you're coming from but imo exercise is exercise whether that's playing squash, paying for a gym session or floundering to Mad Lizzy in your pants.

And no offense was meant; hence the use of the word 'tosh', sorry bud :P

Anything that gets your heart rate into the training zone i would consider as proper exercise, whether its in front of a tv or in a gym.

I have both yourshape and active 2. I've used yourshape almost everyday since christmas and it's great. I tend to run through the cardio boxing entire classes (bronze, sliver, gold) 3 times each, plus vitural smash before moving on to some toning stuff.

I got active yesterday. for me, yourshape is gentler than active 2 but still a good workout. active 2 covers floor work, yourshape doesn't. Active 2 "hurts!" where are yourshape doesn't.

all in all both provide a good workout but is active 2 worth the extra cost (I got mine for £44.99) ... that's up to you to decide.
