*** Official Kodi (née XBMC) Thread ***

Hi,

I’m interesting in getting this set up at some point.

Now while I think the movies and TV shows side of it seems to be relatively straightforward, I have a ton of wrestling that I want to add to it. From what I gather, XBMC only works well in a season/episode type of manner, while I want to use the program in viewing all the artwork and info of each PPV in a yearly format.

Is this at all possible?

If anyone can answer me this you will get brownie points.

Films and series work fine, no issue at all.

Music on the other hand. I have painstakingly gone through and downloaded album art pictures and put them in the album folders...yet XBMC only shows some of them, the others are filled in with 1 image from another band, in my problem a 30 seconds to mars album art. Very annoying! Has anyone else had this? Have a fix?

Cheers!

Check your windows icon cache, I had this and it perplexed me for weeks. I finally discovered that the offending image was stored somehow as the folder image in the windows icon/folder cache. I created a new Music folder and copied copied individual files/folders across to it and that solved the problem for me.

I tried that but I couldn't figure out a way how after many hours of searching.
I will also say that getting all the wrestling episodes and PPVs organised takes a while. You have to rename them in episode number and season otherwise they will not be picked up by XBMC. It took me nearly half a day to sort out two years of smackdown and raws renaming them all and making sure they are right.

Hi guys. Maybe not the best place to ask but more likely someone will know in here.

Basically I have everything running fine but was wondering what do you reckon is the best way to download or convert subtitles into .SRT files?

Serviio works with my LG home cinema unit but it says that the subtitles need to be in .SRT to support it so foreign movies etc are currently a no no unless I use the main xbmc machine.

Thanks.

there are sites like subscene that allow you to download subtitle files.

With the plugin "XBMC Subtitles" enabled, you can even do this within xbmc while watching the movie you need subtitles for.

If you download them manually, outside of xbmc, copy them to the movie's folder, and rename them to be the same as the movie.

If the movie is
The Example Movie (2012).avi
change the subtitle to
The Example Movie (2012).srt
or
The Example Movie (2012).English.avi

Picked up a cheap IR remote off the bay 'Plug and play USB PC Computer Remote Control Media Center Controller 18 meter' for just £4.53

Works out of the box. Remote is obviously a bit tacky but the receiver is compact and should be compatible with the universal remote when it arrives. Good range too, even the mouse function works

Filebot is rather handy for renaming files for XBMC - saved me a hell-of-a lot of time!

What are peoples current thoughts regarding devices to run xbmc on?

A Media PC is out of the question on cost grounds, as Im just about to buy an energy efficient NAS box to replace my old gaming rig-cum-home server that sits on al lday wasting power and never gets used.

Rasberry Pi I have heard mentioned? apple TV's? what are my options?

I bought a tiny little pc with the Nvidia ION Chip (designed for encoding HD Content) and it works perfectly, paid about £70?

Can't remember which one it is, I'll double check when I get home and let you know :)

My Pulse Box is still working nicely. It does get a little warm but it doesnt seem to cause it any issues.

Machine in sig.... 2 years solid service - can't see myself upgrading unless I upgrade the rest of AV kit

I think minimum spec should be nvidia ION or zacate for windows.... R-PI or other ARM based devices are too underpowered

That would be much appreciated :)

Thanks for the other input guys, the Pulsebox looks nice but is a litte more expensive than I had hoped for, any other cheaper resolutions?

or is getting a Raspberry Pi and RaspBMC the cheapest solution?

Yes mate works fine

Sorry Easyrider I should have been clearer, I've got a Harmony One and a Receiver, just wondering how you have the one you've got set up, is it MCE compatible? The one I have is set up as a "ortek vrc-1100" and causes me problems with Windows 8 (think its a driver issue).

I did have it working brilliantly with Windows 7.

Cheers,

Raspberry Pi looks cheap but remember you will need to factor in getting the extras, case, powerpack etc. None of these are exactly massively expensive but they all add up. Not to mention I still have yet to set it handle menu navigation as smoothly as something with a little more grunt.

There are loads of Android based mini boxes around at the moment. They can be very hit and miss. The ATV1200 seems to be pretty well regarded but that comes in around £90.

Unless you have the audio sorted, or you don't want to run DTS audio tracks, I wouldn't. DTS aren't playing ball with licencing the hardware codecs (quite sensibly IMHO - it would kill their business model).

The "lowest" system I run xbmc is a ION/D330 box. Plays everything you throw at it (including DTS) perfectly.

still doesn't work. The problem with when you get the WWE episodes is that they are named by date not by season and episode. The quickest way I have found is to manually use a tv show renamer (I cant remember the name its on my other laptop) and match each episode to the correct one which still takes a while because there is 52 episodes per year of each smackdown and raw
