A lot of mediaportal skins started as xbmc skins, and maybe vice-versa.

Since mediaportal started out as a fork of xbmc, it's possible for them to look very similar. One of my xbmc boxes looks a lot like the images posted.

I've done a bit of jiggery pokery to get things as I wanted - mainly replacing the video library with two subcategories (each containing other ones) that link to smart playlists

Its a fairly similar layout to the one I had with media browser as I didnt want to scare the wife too much change...

Should say, the backgrounds on tv/movies change and are random art from each of the categories - the CD one is the live CD cases background

Sorry if this has already been posted, but a quick question.

Is it possible to boot straight into XBMC? So it's like an OS instead of having windows then load it as an app?

Don't think it is possible, not on windows at least. Happy to be shown otherwise though as it would be helpful.

Phate. Check out Openelec or XBMCbuntu. Sounds like that'll do what you want.

If you're not comfortable with Linux (I wasn't) there are ways to get xbmc to boot straight away with windows to.

Create a scheduled task when windows boots to launch XBMC

I don't think that works with Windows 8 though, as the xbmc loads up on the desktop and not the weird tiles metro screen which appears first.

Disable metro with classic shell or similar.... add xbmc to startup.

Are you sure you want to run windows ? XBMCbuntu or openelec is very lightweight in comparison

Anyone recommend something small I can install xbmc on and stream files from my htpc in another room via home plugs.

Needs to be smooth and handle all files with ease.

Something like an android stick.

I've read it is slow navigating menus and can't handle 1080p that well.

Got Win7 on my media pc.

if XBMCbuntu is less of a strain on the system that could be the solution, turn it on and first thing you see is XBMC.

btw What's a good cheap IR or other remote for xbmc ? My just broke and the misses prefers a proper remote over a mobile phone app

Think I'm going for the Motorola and this time I'll break my 2 year old's wrists if he messes it up

Anyone using a usb-cec ? I think it'll only work with the TV remote, don't think the sky remote will be able to control xbmc though
