*** Official Mass Effect 2 Thread ***

^I agree, I haven't played through ME1 in a while and haven't got any saved games prepared for ME2. I can't bring myself to grind through ME1 to do that anyway.

I played through it twice on the pc to get a lv60 sheperd, i just completed the second run today. It was a bit of a bore on the second run and i was getting a bit worried that i wouldn't get enough exp to reach lv60 before i completed it. To my relief i ended up reaching 60 on completion of Ilos, its over 250k exp for the last level so its a bit of a gap.

I'm almost tempted to start over on insane with a new sheperd. I have enjoyed mass effect more than any other game (bar WoW which i stopped playing years back) in the last 5 years, so i have high expectations for ME2 which I expect wont be fulfilled :p

Trust me on this, don't bother. The problem is, the AI is just as bad.

Normal foe strategy = wander around with the odd bit of shooting, maybe use a tech/biotic if you have it, followed by running head first at your opponent like you have no regards for your own life.
Insane foe, exactly the same with the addition of: if you take damage use either max level Immunity, rendering you nigh indestructable or Barrier.

Unless you have a team of biotics/techs and a lot of patience you won't survive, Insane really isn't that much fun on a new character, the enemies weren't improved in any way bar high damage and Immunity, making the easiest way to kill anything a Biotic to pick it up and riddle it with bullets.

I'm tempted to pre-order the DDE, i do wish they'd give you 10% off... but anyway, the real question is, how will you playthrough the first time? I'm not sure whether i'd prefer to start again in ME2 rather than importing an old ME character over. For 1 thing its been a while since i played ME and my chars were usually fairly strong Biotics which might make the game easy... guess it depends how it works, if you start at lvl60 it might be a bit tedious and you'd miss all the character development.

The developers have said you will not carry your level across, though you will get some kind of acknowledgement if your previous character reached level 60.

Indeed, probably only a minor bonus for getting lv60. Cant find the thread on the ME forums where its all listed but you get small research and money bonuses for a higher level import character, nothing that couldnt be gotten in a normal playthrough without extra work

Im really not sure which class i will start off as for my first playthrough because they all look pretty good depending on what you want. I've always been more of a tech user but i dont really like pure 'support' classes like the engineer and the cloak bonus for infiltrator isnt something i would like to use.

At the moment its between vanguard and sentinel....i think...............

Fair enough. Though the site is utterly useless. How overcomplicated could they make it. The UK version doesn't seem to tell you jack ****, other than that the DDE costs £45... so i'm confused, the Canadian version (which for some reason i was defaulted to :S) seemed to have Gamestop only items. Why don't they keep it simple ffs.

Im getting confused with the whole bringing over the save to ME2??.....I started agin on the same save game that i used on my first run to keep all my stuff and XP but i havent completed it on the second run. So will that mean that my first choices will be taken into account?

Yes. it only transfers game completion saves, the same ones you import characters for new game + with. Anything in your second playthrough wont transfer unless you manage to complete that playthrough aswell

The same thought occurred to me this morning. What happens if on subsequent play throughs you make different decisions to your first?

I understand that their will be an option to answer some questions to create a canon story, but this only applies if you don't transfer a Mass Effect 1 save.

Cheers, i did think that might happen but was unsure if by starting a new game over that it would wipe the choices i made becaue i hadnt made them yet, if that makes sense.

Funnily enough mine defaults to the canadian site, theres not a lot on the uk site, any info you need about the game is best searched through google instead.

You can still get descriptions for each class on the canadian site which is pretty much all im interested in at the moment, otherwise im going to spend 2 hours on the character creation screen deciding what class to be when the games released :D.

So is the Steam pricing reasonable? I presume this isnt like MW2 where the retail copy can be activated on Steam like a Valve product?

Not played the first much, but what I did I liked - think I should play it through before I consider getting this?

ps3ud0

Cant comment on steam questions but id say the first is definately worth a playthrough as you make some pretty big choices that impact on ME2. I cant say for sure how much of an effect these choices will make in the sequel but there will certainly be differences. I cant really give anything away without spoiling it for you.

The only thing stopping me buying this, is that i havent got my ME1 saves anymore and i cant be bothered to go through it again, shame really ME2 looks really good.

You dont have to have ME1 saves, you do realise that?

You can 'chose' you choices at the start of a ME2 playthrough

Bioware's plan has worked perfectly. Sell me Mass Effect 1 for £3.25 over Christmas and then get me to pre-order Mass Effect 2 at full RRP.

Really looking forward to it. :)

Does anyone know if this will be playable with a 360 controller on PC? I know it's going to be best with a keyboard and mouse but I'd like the option of playing it on the big screen.

The boxarts does not have the "Games for Windows" branding so I'd say it won't support any controllers.
