*** Official Mass Effect 2 Thread ***

are there any reports on how long this one is supposed to be? i have been tryign to avoid any information on the game so i dont spoil anything :p

i just hope its longer than the first

The first was long enough. Why is it that people think long = good? I prefer a game that has little faffing around and gets on with the story at a quickish pace.

I agree. Two of my favourite games are short - mirrors edge and portal.

Also I find multiple playthroughs for one character to be extremely tedious, in the case of RPGs.
Ok, the experiences are slightly different, but it's still the same core story, which doesn't have quite the same impact when you're grinding through again to level up the character.

Just in case people were wondering, you can nab the DDE version from EA Store for £33.74 by using the discount code VoucherCodes.com25%, which expired at the end of August last year. Ho hum.

Did the ultra-repetitive layouts for the bunkers, outposts, vessels and so on in ME1 irk anyone else? I can see that they don't want to waste too many resources on parts of the game which many people will likely skip but it's a shame that you can be visiting a brand new unexplored part of the game, yet already know that the first two rooms will be completely safe and you can hack a few lockers and so on before heading through the next two doors to begin fighting.

I used that code and payed with paypal, when would i see an email confirming that? as the page after paying was blank.

Absolutely! It's even more annoying on the second playthrough. As you said I can understand why but having 100 areas with the only difference being the way the boxes are laid out is pretty poor. I love Mass Effect but there are so many things that annoy me...Elevators, the Galaxy map (Wish you could see if you had already explored a system/planet) the MAKO(!!!) walking around the Normandy is very boring after a while. I really hope they've taken a different approach in the sequel.

Hyped for this!

Mass Effect stole entire weekends from me at a time, as a complete sci fi loser I cannot wait for this

Indeed... Mass Effect had so many things that weren't bugs, just lazyness and it dumbed it down a bit. They were a bit sloppy when it came to interiors... if it wasn't a primary quest everything else just had a 'randomly generated' feel about it (even though it was specific to that encounter). Then there was the whole 'weeeeeeeeeeeeee we're going through beacon for the 500th time to change galaxies!' when there was absolutely no need to play that frigging video EVERY DAMN TIME...

The cast is brilliant for this, especially this girl who plays Miranda Lawson.

Yvonne Strahovsk, also modelled on her too.

i like a game with good pacing but a rpg that only lasts about 11 hours is too short imo

11 hours? You're having a laugh! Did you just go from main planet to main planet and sprinting past enemies?

First play through (Veteran) took me 56~ doing everything, landing on every planet.

Second (Hardcore) took me just shy of 40 as I knew where to go.

Third (Insanity) took me around the same, shielded enemies ftl :(

Think I've completed it at least 7 times between 360 & PC. Love it!

/OT

Can't wait for ME2, glad they've introduced magazines for guns, combat could become 'stationary' without any driving force or consequence for hiding and waiting to pick a few off at a time.

Heavy weapons look awesome as well, should be good!

if it took you 56 hours then you must have been playing a different game  i know some people can take their tirme with a game but i cant even imagine how someone could make it last that long unless they stuck to using the starting equipment or something

as for all the comments about portal being short and still being a good game i totally agree but it doesnt change the fact that a rpg should take longer to finish

i think its fine to be able to complete street fighter (obviously with one character :p) in around 7mins but imagine how people would complain if a first person shooter only took that long to complete

anyway enough talk about the length as it seems the developers havent said anything about it yet ;)

Didn't skip dialogue & completed all the rare materials quests (i.e. driving round most of every planet) it all adds up.

PC play-throughs were much quick (sub 20 hours) due to hot keys + mouse aiming.

Still 3x the length of most games, not a patch on the 200 hour behemoth that was BGII.

fair enough ;) i have to admit that i didnt bother with those missions as i found them really dull but i did all the sidequests on the main planets and didnt skip anything to do with the story
