** Official Mayhems Development Log **

You say Mayhems fluid has a maximum lifespan of 3 years. What is the problem with using it for longer? Is it that it cant transfer the heat as well? That is clogs up blocks etc?

If it is heat related have you tested say... 4 or 5 year old fluid against new fluid?

I only ask as I know someone who bought a pre-built watercooled PC with blue fluid about 6 years ago and it still has the same fluid in it. His temperatures don't seem that bad to be honest. I did clean his blocks for him a year or so ago as they were a bit gunged up however. I didn't know how old the fluid was at the time otherwise I would have recommended that he replaces it at the same time.

Inhibitors lose there effectiveness after about 1 to 2 years how ever the Nano fluids prolong the life as they block out light and this help in the longevity of the fluids. We say 3 years max as that is our test time as in we have physically has it in a fully running system now for 3 years with no issue what so ever. So we can state this as a true fact not just some made up figure.

Aurora contains nothing that can harm the environment pastel contains Zn0 which can.

Thanks :)

I believe his is some other companies fluid though. Nothing fancy like Mayhems Pastel i'm afraid.

So is 3 years the decided upper limit for the coolant or are you going to continue to run the system to see if it can last 4 years for example?

Howdy Mr Mayhem!

Thinking of going under water for my next build and I really like the look of the Pastel Ice White. I've seen some pics and videos where it can look a bit beige, or even yellow. Now this is the fault of the tubing rather than the Mayhems, as even in the same pictures/vids it can look proper "milk white" in other parts of the loop (res, acrylic blocks etc).

So just wondering if there are any particular brands of tubing prone to giving this yellow beige look, or any that you actually recommend to give the truest representation of the Pastel's colour?

Thanks in advance!

We stopped at 3 years i needed to update the PC. The pc was left in a running state for 3 years with out being touched ;).

@LurkingWeasel Normally Pastel will stay white and any yellowing colour is from the tubing. I normally recommend Primochill Advance and any hard tubing seems to do the trick as well :).

Last night Mayhems went to the Star Radio North East Business Awards http://www.thisisstar.co.uk/community/businessawards.php.

Thanks Mick, much appreciated. Was already leaning towards the Primochill, but that seals it. And congrats on your awards - well deserved! :)

I would like to know ETA on Aurora 2 also - do you think we'll get it before year end? Would love to get it setup in my build before the end of the year.

Hi Amigafan,

It looks like some plasticizer leeching from the XSPC tubing. Can you confirm it's just the tubing that has discoloured and not the coolant.

Mayhems has been having problems with our products in certain brands of tubing and are currently working to get it fixed. I'm pretty sure Mick will jump on and confirm this and if at all possible ask for a sample of the tubing.

Where do you get those awesome mixing tubes from in your vids? Just ordered the various components to make about 2-2.5L of pastel blood red.... finding something suitable to mix it in all (dual loop so want to make it in 1 batch is a bit tricky :))

I'm intending on replacing my coolant over the next week or 2 (as it's now been in there for about 2 years), and I was wondering what you recommended doing?

I currently have Pastel grape red, and I was going to replace it with pastel red. If I drain, then run DI water through it for a while to clean it out (probably replacing that water a few times too, until it's pretty much clear) would it then suffice to then add the new coolant, or would you recommend opening blocks up & giving them a scrub etc? Also, would you recommend changing tubing, or would it be fine to keep using the stuff I have (Masterkleer).

Lastly, what should be done with the old coolant, as I believe it shouldn't be poured down the drain?

The way i flush a system is

we run a mains tap direct to the pc and flush the system under the main for a minimum of 15 min (do not run it on full only about 1/4 turn). So that's 15 min (minimum) of fresh water going though the system and straight down the drain.

Then fill with cheap DI water and 1 Table spoon of bicarbonate of soda and let it run in the system for another 15 to 30 min.

Drain out

Fill with fresh coolant.

The Old Coolant can re bottled back up and either taken down the waste disposal and left with the oil deposits section or you can send it back to us and it will be disposed off with our normal chemical collections.
