**** Official Microsoft Flight Simulator Thread ****

Paid DLC? They can **** right off! Helos should be in the game as standard.

I somewhat agree, but equally bought as seen right? I never purchase anything in the hope that something might later be added for free...

That said, last I saw in a recent interview they hadn’t actually finally decided if it would be paid for or not, and on top of that they said the update itself would be free you just wouldn’t have the helicopters. There will almost certainly be third party freeware ones available once the feature itself is in.

Can someone do me a favour and take some screenshots and post them here of Shoreham airport in Flight Sim? I'm really intrigued to see how good it looks (and the general area of Shoreham / River Adur). I live near by but can't get this game yet as I am pretty sure my rig won't cope.

It's only a quid to try?

I use the T Flight HOTAS 1 at the min until my Warthog gear comes its a good stick...a game pad will work but ill have a HOTAS over a gamepad any day of the week

Xbox controller is enough to start playing. I have a X52 which I only really hook up to the PC when I know I will be spending 1+hr on the game. Otherwise, the controller is enough to control the game and fly!

Cheers both, ill give it a go with the pad and the one month game pass, then make a decision!

Must say I'm in love with this sim. As a bit of a plane geek it just ticks the boxes that x-plane never did.

All of the comm frequencies are correct (that I've tried) so I can look up the ATIS Freq on navigraph and put it in to comm2 and monitor the ATIS when in range so I can get ready for an approach. Just had a flight from Newquay to Exeter with my brother in law and the weather is bang on. Brilliant stuff.

We are now planning a tour from the south of the UK to the north fully vfr, each picking a leg. Awesome!

In the vids I have seen the ATC voices are always American even in British airports? Is this a setting? It would bug me a lot as I'd stick to UK airspace most of the time.

I'm holding off installing any add-ons for a while.

Me too, I'm weighing up my options and waiting for more polished products rather than installing a raft of half baked ideas. I'm sure some are perfectly fine, but I've had fingers burnt with X Plane in just downloading a load of guff and having it sat on my system!

It uses Microsoft's Azure for the comms. It's could based text-to-speech so should be much easier to support different voices than having to record everything. Just some variety would be a massive improvement, as would some differentiation between the ATC and your own (or co-pilot's) voice.

There's a demo of the Azure stuff here. Quality varies enormously.

It would be great to see them add all the Azure voices :)

This is a lot of fun! Got a hotas and rudders ahead of a vr headset coming and they really add to the immersion. Just messed about in some simple planes so far as I get used to the controls but great fun flying over places you know.
Last night went south island of NZ and took a plane from the milford sound to doubtful. Get treated to some great views with the lighting and clouds as you fly between the mountains. Gonna take a jet through later to explore it a bit faster ;)

I have had a few crashes to desktop but almost always when a device that wasn't on gets added in - so wireless headset or usb speakers, things like that. I daren't alt-tab out to desktop most of the time either. Now it's out in the wild I'm sure they'll be able to get a handle on most of this and get it a bit more stable.

Helicopters would be amazing. Not sure how different heli controls are from the real thing with a hotas. I know the throttle control tends to look like a handbrake lever? Are all the other controls you would need present to represent a real heli?!

Better weather over San Francisco right now compared to the UK
San Fancisco Int looks amazing, Wish i took a screenshot of the airport now

Grrr. Who ever signed off on the controls section on this clearly didn't even bother downloading the game. So I duplicate the profile I'm using to make a change. The duplicated profile has zero controls assigned and the other profiles have zero inputs assigned. This wouldn't be so bad if it recognised a normal Logitech joystick like FSX did.

Still struggling to get the game to recognise my Xbox Controller - convinced that keyboard and mouse is unplayable for me.

EDIT: Hurray - Xbox 360 controller is working for some reason. Much better!
