**** Official Microsoft Flight Simulator Thread ****

is it easy to setup ?
Yes, the only thing that takes some time is getting used to it and tweaking curves to suit how you want it to operate, but once you are used to it you will wonder how you ever flew sims without it. These days it's nothing compared to VR but if you are playing in pancake mode it really is a great addition.

Hi all, anyone using the Samsung G9 Neo with flight sim? If you do how is the sim etc?

Hi Danny, I have this monitor and use it with FS2020 and many other sims and high end games like ARMA 3, love it.

Mine is 5120 x 1440 and read somewhere that is about 85% of 4K resolution or something, does me and is slightly easier on the GPU than a taller aspect 4K screen is, love this monitors max refresh rate too for fast precision shooter stuff like ARMA.

Have tried regular ratio (used to be called widescreen) 4K monitors, even large sized 4K modern TV's with varying degrees of success, this monitor is my best Flight Sim solution yet.

Make sure you have enough desk space, this beast has a fair footprint for stand and length width wise :) The curvature is dramatic when you open the box but once set up and all your FS perhips in reach, its a dream to use.
Every so often I wish it has more height, but that's just straying back to regular monitor ratio's again LOL and believe me FS2020, DCS and most Sims look awesome in Ultra Wide.

I love this monitor, really do and heartily recommend it.

Hi Folks,
Read some really useful posts in this thread - thank you - and would appreciate some critique on my PC Spec please.

Ignore my sig slightly - it's now running Win11 (no Unraid) - but it is a 5950x, 128GB (4x32GB) of 3600 C18 RAM, and a 6900XT Graphics card. I've got a 49" Samsung Monitor (https://www.samsung.com/uk/monitors...49-inch-120hz-freesync-curved-lc49rg90ssrxxu/) and its set to use AMD FSR (so 1080p to 1440p).

It's.... ok. I get a lot of low frame rates when in busy locations like JFK, and I'm trying to work out how to improve things.

It looks like I could swap into a 5800X3D and 32GB of 3600 C14 RAM (2x16GB) cost neutral. From what I can tell, that would help, a bit. I don't need all the RAM and cores after changing how I use this system, so it seems sensible to consider this.

Appreciate peoples thoughts. It seems a bit mad that really the best option will be to get a 4090 and enjoy DLSS3 in order to have it play smoothly.

I like you have a 5950x and I doubt either of us would call it ‘weak’ but it is weak in MSFS! I would say go for a 5800 3D for like +15% fps but I can’t bring myself to go down to 8 cores as I do a lot of other things with my pc too where the 5950x is either effective or overkill!

I haven’t read up too much on DLSS3 but am I right in thinking it can compensate for a weaker cpu? If so then a 4070ti/4080 would also have that effect?

Thanks for the reply.

Just been playing around and turned on the developer tools to see whats going on.
Turning on DX12 made a tiny amount of difference, but its constantly telling me its main thread limited during low level flight in areas like New York. If you get over 20-30,000 feet, only then is it saying limited by GPU, and that is when Frame rates are ~50.
I get quite a lot of stuttering when first entering a flight, the developer tools show this is all main thread 'lag' related.

I'd be interested to know if anyone else has a 5800X3D and some fast RAM to know if they are main thread limited.

Else I guess I need to wait for the X3D Zen 4

Until fairly recently FS2020 that ive got via game pass was working fine, i went to try it and it crashed on loading, gave me the option to start in safe mode which I selected and still crashed to desktop on boot, i uninstalled it and then reinstalled it again and its doing the same, no hardware changes to my system and have everything upto date, i'm at a bit of a loss other than reinstalling windows which i'd like to avoid if possible but it has been sometime since windows was installed so maybe the only option but wondering if anyone has had any similar issues

Is your community/mods folder empty ? Manually installed third party content and mods don’t get deleted when you uninstall the game.

Did you install FS anywhere other than the default install path?

I have mine on a separate drive, so I have a community folder on that drive, as well as buried deep within the C: drive hierarchy.

e: happy 1500th post to me

I have 3 drives, 1tb SSD on C:, 12tb HDD for storage on D: and 4tb SSD on E: (for my games), i had it installed on E: but when i have just gone to launch it again after uninstalling and reinstalling its saying 118gb update but was pointing at somewhere on c:

A 118GB update is the entire game, sounds like it's trying to install it again, elsewhere.

I've been a simmer for many a year and sometimes the effort/time wasted trying to resolve issues far exceeds the time it would take to backup your stuff and wipe the C drive before reinstalling again. This hobby has certainly accelerated the progression of my grey hairs, so I completely understand how frustrating this can be.

Before you go down that route, I would uninstall again, then use a program like reg finder (windows reg editor may work just as well), search for and delete all traces of flight simulator in the registry and then try a further reinstall.

Edit: it is normal to install the game then have a massive update on first launch, as installing the game only installs the most basic of files to allow for the massive update.

yeah im very familiar with just wiping and reinstalling rather than spending hours and hours fault finding, i'll let it do its thing overnight tonight and see what happens tomorrow
