Bought it.

Which flight stick / etc should I get?

Don't mind spending a bit to get nice experience right away :)

Is SAITEK The Pro Flight Yoke System a good place to start?

My sister is trying to find that for my nephew, out of stock everywhere.

I hope so as 120Gb will be a long wait even at 8 or 9 Mbs. However as I noted above no sign of any pre load either in the Steam client or in the directory structure. Will resign myself to probably not playing this until Wednesday evening.

Lucky you, I'm stuck with a crappy 1MB/s and no way to get anything faster.

I haven’t used any yokes, but from others I get the impression that the honeycomb yoke is significantly better.

I got a TrackIR when I first got elite. I then realised the flaw. You turn your head and the games tracks accordingly - you are then not looking at the screen!

I'm certain I was doing it wrong. I do wear glasses so my peripheral vision is limited somewhat.

Still wondering how well my 7600k, 1070 and 32GB system will cope - can't wait to find out.

I'm assuming this a a game that loves Ryzen over intel due to the extra cores.

Genuinely curious about this myself, but not curious enough to buy it.

You can tweak the sensitivity etc in the profiles... obviously helps to have a decent sized monitor too, but you should be able to set it up so that you only need a small head movement.

It does seem to work great at distributing load all across my 3900X, so it’s definitely well threaded. Some settings at high/ultra ramp up the CPU usage, but conversely at lower settings aren’t all that demanding.

You may find that the 4 cores starts to be limiting when trying to increase some settings (a 6 core is recommended spec, and 8 core is ideal spec) but to be honest I think it’s probably reasonably well balanced with the 1070 at 1440p or higher. A new GPU may leave you CPU bottlenecked in this game.

So does that mean preloading is only going to start tonight at 23:00? Seems a bit rubbish tbh! It'll take forever to download the 127GB for the game, especially with the download servers being hammered so I doubt many will be playing on Tuesday!

I think that is when the download starts, there's two downloads the base program about 1gb I think then the main download, hopefully they have prepared for the amount of downloading

23:00 UTC = midnight U.K. time in the summer.

I’m not sure how much it will help anyway because you download the launcher first, and then that downloads the game. So unless you can download AND launch the launcher, or they have some way of preloading the game files too then you will still need to download the full game after the preload.

Are you mental? new cards are out soon.

Edit: sarcasm detector was afk.

:D

Yep, I am mental!

As for preload, not a biggie for me, bought on Steam, will turn on pc before I go to work and download for the time I come home, then I can play for myself rather than watch some streamers wander aimlessly.

The 787 looks good for a base model, but again will likely require 3rd party dev to make it fully workable. The 737-800 PMDG will be an insta buy for me when it arrives too. In the meantime, I think I'll just have fun pottering around in GA planes.

Did a flight in XPlane 11 using the Zibo mod on the weekend, Tallahassee to Miami, and whilst it looked ok, it did remind me that it runs like a dog and looks every inch of its last generation tech, even with Orbx TrueEarth Florida.

Still got a fair few bugs to iron out though, hilly water is one that particularly stands out to me at the moment having watched a fair few streams on the weekend.

I think most reviews will be fairly good for it as its likely that the reviewers will be largely game reviewers rather than simmers, but as has been discussed to death on this forum and elsewhere, its a really good base game for further developers to delivery good study level aircraft in the months and years to come.
