*** Official OMG I've finally got my 5850 thread **

Oh I forgot, the gf went out last night so I donned my ear defenders and put the fan on 100% hair dryer mode.

Only got me an extra 20Mhz on the core which stayed below 60C under load so I am beginning to think that except for silence, I'm not going to get much more overclocking wise from my card with water :(

Guess I have just bought the worst overclocking 5850, my luck :(

Hello I am experiencing severe problems with my Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5850:( and would like to know if anyone can help.
First- boots bios and displays windows after install.
The issue is when I install any driver version, first i tried the supplied drivers from the dvd that came with the card. Installs fine, but upon restart system becomes toally unresponsive and there are graphical glitches present everywhere which were not there before install, running anything is out of the question. Same response from Vista SP2 & Windows 7 (Build 7600)(From freshly formatted installs).

Then I tried the recommended drivers from ATI 8.66RC6, again installs fine logs says its ok. But upon restart the screen goes blank after the windows loading screen and stays blank(Left for half an hour), (The same response in Vista & Windows 7) I can only restore from safe mode but the drivers are then lost. I also tried 8.66RC7 with the exact same results.
I also tried intalling the supplied drivers & then just updating the display adapter from recommended 8.66RC6 at which point the screen imediately goes blank(Again left for 30mins), even after restart it is still blank.

The only options I can think of are wait for official cata 9.10 ib the hope that it works or return it as i can't do anything with it right now. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Make a Ghost/Backup of Your OS
Clean install, XP or vista
add motherboard chipset drivers
Install GFX drivers from supplied disk

If it does not work then You have a big problem !
It will, so then install all Your other drivers one by one and test

When You find the conflict, You can ghost back and fix it

The conflict is the Display Adapter Driver i think. Fine before install, really glitchy with supplied installed, blank screen with RC6&7 installed
I tried supplied drivers on clean installs of vista/7 with chipset drivers installed, laggy glitchy and unresponsive. Restored back to before and tried 8.66RC6 blank screen, Restored then tried RC7 same thing. I tried installing the supplied drivers then painfully(laggy & glitchy) installed the RC6 to update - imediate blank screen.
I have not tried XP but will post results.
Is it a case of the card rather than the driver, i though it was the driver due to the different reactions to the supplied ones and the betas, also it seems fine before driver install(no lag, glitches). Thanks

I don't think even with water it's worth the extra .15v for the 75Mhz.

however 1.2v for 1000mhz sounds good for 24/7 use.:D
