Anyway, I was trying for 2.8ghz (11 x 255 = 2805mhz)
But I get you now - sorry.
lol

easyrider said:Which leads me to believe the failure was not temp related.
It might not be an Opti at alleasyrider said:lolthats ok how come you have a 11 multi anyway? on an opty 170? this is imopssible.
Jokester said:Yep, I'm getting some strange results with another dual core, SnM stable to 3GHz on air, the second you go over it resets itself. Temps are still good (50C full load), giving it more volts doesn't make any difference, even using phase makes no difference. Tried it on 3 motherboards, 2 PSUs and different RAM so it's definitely something about the CPU.

easyrider said:must have found the cpu's limit!
dual core 3ghz is nice though![]()
easyrider said:Not been an issue here. These chips are designed to run hotter![]()
Jokester said:It's strange though, I've never had a chip that goes from 100% stable to total instability in the space of a few MHz. It doesn't even go through a stage where it produces errors, just falls over completely.

Clint said:Not at these speeds.
Clint said:Again, lower the temps and you will see gain in clock.

Big.Wayne said:Whats the correct way to install 2x Prime95?
Do I just re-run the setup exe and install it in a different folder?
And what is the best way to assign this *affinity* thing?
Danke![]()

Much easier than that - don't bother with 2 installs...see my post above.easyrider said:Yes
And in prime choose advanced then set affinty

easyrider said:Its not the heat thats failing that OC imo its the voltage. These things can run at 65c so 45c is no problem.
I'm 2.8ghz @1.36 v and my temps are fine.In warm room.
PWMIC get a tad toasty but I'm on the case. But its stable as a rock .
I have noticed a 6c rise from stock on my opty. Its the vcore that causes the heat not the overclock imo
Clint said:Yup, 44-45C seems to be the number to avoid passing, craps out for me as well.
Idle dropped 3C and load 8C, I'm on a Big Typhooon now but have a XP-120 that I'm gonna mount later on...needs modifications though.
The Big Typhoon will strain the Mobo and core if in a vertical chassi.
Haha, the mobo is very close to the window...not that cold in room.
I have a tempmonitor lying on the mobo.
I only do this to see the potential for a watersetup, pretty easy and cheap test to do before I go and order all those tubes and tanks.
And I knew you gonna jump all over it..hehe![]()
The XP-120 gives me some 2-3 degrees higher temps compared to the Big Typhoon, I see now 45 degrees when priming on 2700MHz on 1.19volts in a 25degrees ambient room...idle is 34 degrees.ted34 said:Let me know how you find the xp120 compared to the big typhoon. What fan are you using with the xp120? so far under load im at 40degrees with 1.376v. Think 1.4v will be my limit due to temps. Watercooling looking tempting. So many people over at XS are taking the exact same stepping cpu's as ours past 3ghz.

This is with the fan that came with the Big typhoon, it has a max of 1100rpm and are very quiet (16db).
On the DFI Ultra-D the heatsink mounts are not linear with the force of gravity, so the BT gives to much of momentum for my taste...the XP-120 is a better choice in my book.
I had to cut bits and pieces to fit the XP-120 after the IHS was removed...but now it sits perfect with 1mm between it and my memory.
Also the cooling of the PWMIC has improved now when the fan is closer.
