It might be that the IHS isn't making good contact with the core, this did happen occasionally with the single core Opterons so it happening with a dual core isn't unfeasible.

No stickers on the cpu and heatsink was taken straight off my opty 144 and placed on the 170.
After paste was cleaned off of course
THe temp reader is fine as my temps were spot on with my old opty 144
