Great!

Finally you hit 3GHz :D
Now if you feel you need to take the hat off and use the XP-120 I've made a tutorial:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=91661

Go away for a couple of days and come back and theres another 2 pages to the thread. Ninja still hasnt arrived and dont want to push the volts up or will have to leave fans on full during the night. 8 degrees is a really good temp lower.

PWMIC runs a lot hotter than with the single cores even though the voltage is a lot lower - whats the max temps for this?

Well, they are rated to some 90+ C..but some say your clock gets affected when over 50-60C..(and I agree).

He's getting 2.65 @ 1.375v. Hardly a 'bad' stepping for a 165 (whatever stepping it is!). If it didn't clock past 2.4 I would deffo chase a refund but anything past 2.6 for a 165 is a bonus imo.

Its a 170.

Doesn't look like it was sliced to be honest.

Its currently at 2.65Ghz on 1.375V

Going to stress it over night :)

I payed £265 and stepping is CCBWE 0546XPMW

I just got the same stepping from the auction place (same seller I think, mine was a new retail for £270) , 2720 dual prime @ 1.475v, 27C idle, 42C maxed on S&M.

I'd say with your temps being so high to start with, maybe the ihs had been removed and replaced badly. Very naughty.

XtremeStability™ Quad-Prime

FAILURE! - 2.6GHz 1.4v

Opteron 170 CCBWE 0550 UPMW, closed case.

Your temps are too high, if you could get the max load to stay under 45C you will most definately succeed.

...I must say you are persistent.... :D

Do you notice any temp difference between running dual SP and Quad SP? Interested if there is as both cores would still be 100% either way

not a long dual prime, all i had time for as i dont/cant leave my pc on over night

SUCCESS! - 2.6GHz 1.4125v

Too high vcore and too hot for that speed is my first reaction.
..nevertheless, you are definately sticking to your own definition of whats an stable OC.

Good Job!

UPDATE!!

Well i took my artic freezer pro off one last time to reapply Artic silver and try seating it for the last time.

I took the heatsink off and............

The ihs came off the processor with it

Was shocked for an initial few minutes.........Put the cooler back on the chip without the ihs and temps dropped considerably.

Now idles at 31degrees with 39degrees full load

Heres a pic of it after i first took it out :p

Guess the ihs was never sealed properly from the factory

interesting to read, i got the same stepping from the same place around the same date and about the same price.. i asked the guy if the box had been opened.. he said no ..when it arrived i found the box had been opened carefully.. when i came to fit the cpu it had bent pins.. luckily i managed to fix it.. never left a neg before but im tempted this time

email him first,to tell him off for his deceit, and ask to hear what he has to say for himself.THEN leave -ve feedback.

And i got my clock with 1.4 volts

bigwayne is funny, and well done on the clock stable.

I would contact him and put a link to this thread then give him an option to put things the way you want them, he has not been fair.

aye, thats the sensible way to handle it.. i have contacted him to try to resolve the problem in an amicable way.. i would be happy with a partial refund, but based on my previous experience of a particular online auction site i dont hold much hope. I await his reply.

will keep you posted :)
