Did you get your 434L up and running yet?
I got one of those as well, probably from the same auction.

I saw devious post on another forum I think. Is he the one who only managed 2.5GHz from one of his chips? And was that a 434L too?
 
Was going to get a 170 from OCUK but saw another place selling 175's for similar price :rolleyes: I'll take the higher multiplier and extra 200Mhz thanks. ;)

Got it running at 2.5Ghz which is an extra 25% increase, best buy I have ever made, my rendering times have halfed which leaves me with more time to play CS :)

From what I've read as well 2.6Ghz and beyond is within my reach.

I'm not looking to clock the nuts off it, i'll be satisfied with FX60 speeds.

Bit shocked about OCUk's prices though they're usually quite cheap.

Hi again all,

still waiting for my shipment of 170's, been an interesting few days!

I have concluded that this 408L hysteria is just hype! It is a phenomena that exists only in the overclockers.co.uk forums.

I have spent many many days trawling the overclocking forums of the world, and it seems most hardcore overclockers are dealing with batches and steppings. Getting down to microscopic details such as the specific wafer-charge (in this example it's 408L) is just a step too far and I believe any claims that is a super-uber chip are unfounded. People may have clocked them very high but from the evidence that has been shown I believe these overclocks are *far* from stable.

My only mistake here was believing some of the claims that have been made so far, and I really wish some people would take more time to test for *super* stability before rushing to make a post

hehe this is the sort of misleading post that I am talking about ;)

Lastly I have managed to sell at least four 170's to clients and working on the rest now, by not buying them from overclockers.co.uk I stand to be at least £500 better off, maybe more. . .

That statement was made with regards to the stepping CCBWE 0550 UPMW

going on a test I did last night 2.6ghz on stock vcore 1.3 v!

12 hrs prime stable. ;) I just couldn't believe I was getting a 600mhz overclock without changing anything in the bios! :D

My experience of 170's was that most would do 2.4ghz on stock vcore and anything above needed a boost.And quite a sustantial one in order to gain only 100 mhz or so.

My last opty needed 1.475 vcore to reach 2.6ghz and 1.575vcore could not get 2.7ghz prime stable.

I don't make claims for super clocks and chips unless there is reason and quite frankly this opty here CCBWE 0550 UPMW is just amazing.

I think the 408l bit that others speak of is a tad obsessive a bit like buying numorus 170's at once like yourself. ;)

But hey each to their own! :D

people in this thread talk of game stable etc..

Thats not a stable system in my book.
Unless prime is running error free for 12 hrs then thats enough analysis to warrant the statement STABLE.

Is 12hrs dual prime stable not *super* enough?

depends what test you are running? did you try the first test in Prime95 (Small FFTs) for any length of time?

Yup its totally crazy buying so many CPU's looking for the *grail* stepping, but actually this is what the top overclockers do, maybe they don't buy a stack all at once, but over the course of a few weeks or months they go through a lot of cpus. . .

While I was reading through thousands of posts I saw one guy commenting on chips that you buy from auction (used/open/non-sealed) he was saying that its rare to get a nice one as the seller would never sell a good chip (i.e he has tested them all and is selling off the worst clocking ones!).

I'm still to get my hands on some 170 silicon, but I suspect that batch & steppings are a good indicator of overclock potential, but I wont be taking it any further than that in the future.

I'm gunning for 2.6GHz totally rock solid (FX-60 clones) and from the evidence I have witnessed I'm not totally confident that is possible, but we will see.

I will be backing up any of my overclocking claims with full screenshot proof of some sick 24hour tests, so if any potential buyers are reading my posts they can be fairly confident that what I am saying is true.

Total stability is king, then comes speed, its not the other way round!

Yes the test I ran was prime 95 dual instances on small FFT's for 12hrs last night.

2.6ghz stock vcore running my HZ Gskill memory 1:1

I changed nothing in the bios.

Like I have said I think 12hrs prime stable is fine for a stability test.

The only thing I canged in the bios was the FSB.

I installed it changed it to 240 than ran prime for a couple of hrs error free.
Then went back into the bios and changed the fsb value to 260.

Ran primes small FFT for 12 hrs and in cpuz the reading is

Hi looks nice! but two things. . .

1) I wonder what voltage that CPU is running on because when you set it *auto* it changes vCore depending on CPU load (did u notice the vCore going up or down maybe?)

2) Where is your screenshot of your desktop showing the 12hours of hard testing you did, I know it takes more effort but if you make a claim you need to back it up as there are some people (not you) that are making bold claims and supplying no evidence, or something really simple like a CPU-z screenie and a completed 32MB Super-PI only :o

Scroll back to my earlier post in this thread where I posted a couple of thumnails of me 146 overclock, that may seem a bit OTT but you only need to do it once.

Anyway thanks for the feedback, I am more hopeful now that 2.6GHz should be do-able!! ;)
 
I noticed no fluctuation in the vcore reading in cpu-z.
However My DFI mobo is the only board that I have owned where its does not fluctuate.

That screenshot I have just taken, and will post another screen in due course but will be trying for 2.8ghz instead.

Do you know I could kick myself that I didnt take a sceeny this morning during the test.But I got up and just saw that prime was still running and didnt think to take one! :eek: :mad: :p


TBH you will get 2.6ghz on most opty's I would have thought.But It may require a lot more vcore.

As I have said my last opty did 2.6ghz but it needed 1.475v for prime stabilty.And nearly 1.6v for 2.7ghz which was just not worth pumping through it for only 100mhz gain.
One core was fine but the weaker core just carped out

No that was an opty 170!
It did 2.4ghz on stock or auto.But needed 1.475 to run @ 2.6ghz prime stable

Ok, egnoring the whole 408L arguement, I promise you that my CPU is 100% stable at the speeds I run it at, why would I want a un-stable gaming rig?

What would need to happen to prove to you that it is stable?
