**Official Portal 2 thread**

How'd you miss it? :p

As Bunyan said its on the Singleplayer menu. Oddly it seems to include dev commentary for all of Co-op too. You can't save (at all) while doing it though which is a bit of a pain, so you're better off giving yourself the time to play through entire chapters at a time.

Yeah sometimes I wish all games used the source engine. When you play Valve games often it can be hard to adjust to other game engines because their simply not as good.

and everyone slags off the engine for being old :( amazing what they can pull out of the same engine though

^Probably designed from the start to be highly customisable/upgradeable as well as the obvious great efficiency and compatibility. When I think of top game engines, Source is always first in mind.

I still think the source engine is one of the most impressive engines to date. The textures in places are fantastic, they know how to use lighting perfectly, and given a better engine I'm in no doubt they could blow away metro/crysis with ease, and it generally never seems to become stale like many engines do after a few years.

Yes I have done. It's the fact that there's only 90 seconds remaining on the clock and I'm getting in a flap!¬ :D

Hehe that's all part the fun :D. My fella alway giggles at me if I start peering about in my chair, not that I will ever get a better angle by sitting up extra straight or leaning to the left .. oh & ducking for no reason haha.

Haha. you think thats bad? I remember once when I was playing Aliens Vs Predator (the original one), I was playing as a marine and a facehugger snuck up and latched onto my face. When that happens it covers the whole screen like its actually attatched to your face.

It happened so fast and at such a tense moment I literally screamed and threw my arms in front of my face. :o

Haha the good old days of AVP. Face huggers used to annoy the crap out of me. I'm terrible for trying to duck or move out the way of things IRL instead of in game lol. Maybe I should invest in a kinect :p

Absolutely none of the games you mentioned, not even Deus Ex, had the same depth to it that Portal 2 has with regards to attention to detail and story telling.

But those are the parts I care least about :/ I don't care if Chell had beans on toast for breakfast, I don't care if she like playing chess outdoors on a sunny afternoon. I don't care if every panel in the game has its own unique serial number. I don't care if the lab is exactly 1 mile up a south-facing slope.

How much attention to detail do I care about? Not much! As long as there is GLaDOS and testing chambers, what else matters exactly? Sure we can have a story that moves things along, but how much detail do you need or even want in a puzzle game about portals?

Why are games now judged almost exclusively on story and attention to detail?

Each to their own, but in that respect I'd say Portal offers a nice balance of both story driven content & challenging puzzles.

I love the story & the puzzles. If they were to do DLC, say puzzle packs etc then I would buy those also so I can get an additional Portal fix.

The original game had me excited towards the end but this has me excited from the word go.

Looks lovely as well. The lighting and shadows are great and the soft tones really add to the atomosphere. I was really looking forward to see what would be tweaked with the source engine and clearly they have done a good job :)

Texture wise still the same sadly but you're correct, the lighting really does add to the atmosphere and experience in the game. Certainly a nice bit of work there which spruced up the aging engine pretty well :)
