**Official Portal 2 thread**

It is a shame that they left out a lot of the twitch-based faster puzzles. They were always my favorite in Portal, and they look like some of the best ones unfortunately.

This game really shows how amazing valve is at games design. They just "get it" so to speak how many other developers would make this sort of game frustrating and un unintuitive

I wouldn't necessarily say that - I'd say that they take notice of what their playtesters are saying. :D They scrapped or altered a lot of the game based on their feedback.

I have never heard of this game but decided to buy it as everyone is raving about it.

I love it. It's a great game. Mid way through Chapter 2. Getting harder!!

is that not clever games design?

have you never played a game and said "how on earth did this get past play tests"

i have many a time

Don't rage because you're not as good at puzzle games at other people, it makes you look like a stupid immature kid to everyone else.

I'm better than most and have been through the first Portal game 4 times so many puzzles are obvious in P2. No one can do this in under 6 hours without rushing and therefore missing out on things. I never got stuck on any area for more than 20 mins but still it took 7+ hours because i actually played the game properly.

I completely support MR.B in this.

Some people must have been playing a different game to me. Six hours is complete rubbish. If people are going by the Steam timer then we already know it's glitched.

Rock Paper Shotgun says it was taking their staff members at least seven hours, with Valve employees finishing it in six. Are the people here better than Valve employees?

Having spent yesterday morning replaying the game, knowing all the solutions, I was certainly nowhere near finished in four hours. And the rest of us on RPS have found it’s taking at least seven hours. And then we started hearing about some even more incredible finishing times for Portal 2, based on Steam’s in-built timer. We’ve some news for you: the timer doesn’t work.

People’s desperation to finish games quickly has always bemused me. It’s like spending £20 on a Blu-Ray movie and then watching it on fast-forward, and boasting to your friends it only took you 45 minutes to watch Avatar. (Well, that’s not a good example, but you understand the point.) When spending £30-£50 on a game, surely you’d want to take your time, get the most out of it? Take the “1000G” approach (to speak in the parlance of our console cousins).

But here we have people saying they explored as much as they could, listened to everything, and yet clocked in times under five hours. With a Valve insider telling me it takes them around six hours to finish the game, something is surely up.

Going by the dev commentary they altered practically everything. The whole Caroline thing came about literally because they didn't want to have to hire a new actor for a few lines so used Ellen McLain again.

They redesigned the 'emancipation field' because some playtesters had never seen it before when it turned up as a major part of 1 of the early chambers despite the fact its at the exit of every chamber. I never even noticed they added a 'vortex' effect to it if you move an object close to it until i heard the commentary.

6 hours is easily possible. I started playing just after it unlocked around 5am GMT and finished at 11:30. I stopped midway through to make some breakfast and I found most of the easter eggs.

Lol... frustrated much? Took me 5 hours without cheating on first play through and I didn't "rush like mad". The only person who looks like a stupid immature kid is you for that pathetic, envy ridden outburst.

Five hours. Yes, OK. We already know the timer isn't working. I think MR B was just using his head rather than a glitchy timer. It's impossible to finish the game in that time.

im very stuck
the box falling down into the water, you open portals to project the light paths
are you supposed to get the box ?
cant for the love of god figure out how to get the light path round the the falling box !!!!!!!!!! aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh x 100
