!!**Official RAGE Thread**!!

it should come with a "runs best on ipad" logo at the start

agreed looks much better on my iPhone 4, and that ain't no joke!

Thats it, its bloody awful imo, 6 years to make this, i dont and wont usually **** off games easily but its nothing special.

I pretty much have no time for gaming anymore, but id games and the like always have a special place - i will make whatever little time i have to play them!

Part of the fun was going to the config screen and messing around. Now it looks like ill have to search the net to edit a .cfg file. I mean come on please give us some respect. I have GTX 570 here doing bugger all and want it to flex its muscles, but it looks like ill have to research the config ******** and spend more time doing that than actually playing it. Great

Guys I wasn't impressed for the first hour or so, aside from a few nice graphical areas (don't look too closely or you'll ruin the mirage), but give it time and it really does open up in to quite treat. It's a solid fps with above par mechanics, added flare, plenty of character and some amazing atmosphere in parts.

7 hours in I hit an area that changed my opinion... even if it were preceded by a crash to desktop. :)

No we shouldn't forgive the developer for the problems (no chance) BUT the game underneath is worth your time.

Wednesday Bethesda said that the RAGE team is currently working on an update that will allow players to more easily make configuration changes (rather than let the game do it for you). More details regarding the update will be released shortly.

So in other words, it was shipped too early from the looks of things. Don't understand how id thought they could ship a game with next to no user graphics options.

Honestly some of the enviroments looks absolutley stunning! The first bandit hideout has amazing lighting like below.

cant believe how stupid publishers can be. PC feels like an afterthought. AMD have to take some of the blame here for broken opengl. all the money we spend on their cards and they cant even keep the drivers upto date its absolutely pathetic.

It isnt broken though, the game itself is at the core at most of the issues. Most posts ive seen suggest that the fixed drivers are working fine for quite a lot of people.

OK played a fair bit now, some thoughts on the game.

GFX, characters and weapons look great, as does the lighting effect and shadows but they can look out of place against the amazingly low quality backgrounds and in game objects, I mean we're talking not even PS2 quality up close, at first I thought have the textures loaded up properly...from afar they look decent but up close they are terrible and yeah playing it on a monitor they are very apparent in the city areas or when using the sniper rifle, every single background and in game object is blurry and distorted up close. This megatexture stuff needs to be dropped if that's the best quality we're gonna get, and a 20 GB download for that quality........

Interaction with backgrounds and objects is nonexistent, simple stuff like shooting a window can't be done, it's a non interactive world basically.

Gameplay, the game is fun with some great weapons at your disposal and I still have a fair way to go yet so I'm sure they will be a few more surprises on the weapons front. Shooting and killing enemies is great fun with top animations, they react to being shot very realistically.

To me the game world feels a little linear with the game letting you go only where it wants you to for select missions, this may change letter on but now it's basically go here, do this, come back here.

Overall I think it's a fun game and worth a purchase, my only real gripe is with the awful background and object textures when near them and little to no interaction with the world around you.

The good and the bad IQ of Rage. Not resized small to hide the quality.

Some of the textures really are laughable, probably the worst being that pipe and wall texture you see after driving into the garage, its literally unmissable and right in your face. Would modelling the pipe really have taken that long? Its not as if its some mad complex shape.

Im starting to wonder if im running out of vram at 5760x1080 using the tweaks from that youtube video, the game hitches quite a bit when im playing, often several seconds at a time worth of pauses. Some pictars:

If id hadn't sold out to Zenimax and so forced to spend all their time making sure it ran good on the consoles because you have to get it right first time for those,

Sloppy work Zenimax, very sloppy.

Actually that was more Carmacks dfirection long before they were bought by Zenimax, he's already said it was basically a stupid move and going forward theyre deploying on pc then changing for consoles.

Can i just ask the reason this is a 21GB game? Honestly some of the textures are worse than a game made from 2001, So why is the file size so massive? Its such a shame because in places it looks amazing

Mainly massive textures, the whole world is comprised of really large textures that can be gigs in size.

Some of the textures really are laughable

Carmack stated that some textures like walls would be blurry up close, I didn't expect the whole game to be a blur when near things, them mountains look good from a distance, zoom in with a sniper rifle and what a shocker. Everything except the characters and vehicles are effected by this low quality texture issue. What gets me is it's a 20 GB download, for what? A good view distance at the expense of texture quality, Megatexture tech needs dropped or greatly improved.

Doesn't this game use mega textures? I can understand the whole game not looking 100% stunning but the contrast is astonishing!
