!!**Official RAGE Thread**!!

I think Carmack should be commended for creating a game engine can look as good as this for so little processing power. Yes I know that some objects have very low res textures., but in general as you are playing the game it looks stunning. Effectively this game only uses a third of my PC's proceesing power (i7 920, GTX 470, 6GB Ram) at 1920x1200.

At the end of the day most people don't have high end PC's but with id tech 5 they should still be able to get a very good looking game on modest hardware.

Thats normal apparently, everyone is getting it.

I don't.

60 FPS in and out of the car with or without a modified CFG file.

Even with all the issues and god awful textures im enjoying the game. It has an atmosphere about it and the art direction is nice.

If they sort the silly bugs, give us some proper graphical options and allow us to download a proper high res texture pack regardless if its 50gb as hard drive space is cheap and most can download it in a couple of nights.

It would be a lovely game.

I don't know why people would shocked by that article.

All it says to me is that a lot of PC gamers can't maintain a PC properly, AMD struggle with drivers and more particularly Open GL and that consoles are the games market. No surprises at all.

Just because id started as PC developers, it doesn't mean they have to become some kind of PC charity and work in a non profit way. If you take the last 2 COD games as an example, 95% of the total sales were on Xbox 360 or PS3. The other 5% were PC and Wii sales.

hmmm just put the latest drivers on, (AMD) and now the game crashes before the start screen appears any tips?

running 2x 69502gb, 8gb ran, i5 2500k

* scrap that it just ran for some reason, seems much more stable i guess its not supporting xfire just yet! still have some blurry textures if i turn really fast but not as bad as it was!

Uh-Oh Heatsinked reposted

That was uncalled for. "Uh-oh" meaning "This isn't going to go down well with a lot of people" considering the reaction to what John has said previously.

I have no quarrel with you Neil so...

I have nothing against id at all. As I think I mentioned before, they are a business, they have to maximize profits to survive. The PC build of RAGE will get sorted out eventually. There is a lot of hate for the sake of hating out there and I won't be a part of it. I think an engine that scales across all platforms and can be tweaked by PC users to take advantage of high-spec systems is a good idea... I guess it's a learning experience for id as it is a relatively new concept. Valve designed the source engine to be highly scalable and was for the most part a success. But that was just limited to the PC at the time.

Anyway, hope people find the article an interesting read.

Not the best video, taken on my phone, But this shows exactly what its like running on a medium spec computer, which is more than capable of running every other game out there with reasonable quality and speed.
As you can see, hammering my CPU, leaving my GPU alone, and Rage.exe reverting to low every single time you start the game and changing it to anything, in the video i tried realtime it crashes, but it crashes when i pick any of them.

Hooray, my copy has just popped through the post and I'm installing now.

Already installed the latest 11.10 preview 2 drivers and I have a rageconfig of

vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly2 8192
vt_pageimagesizeuniquediffuseonly 8192
vt_pageimagesizeunique 8192
vt_pageimagesizevmtr 8192
vt_restart
vt_maxaniso 4
image_anisotropy 4

and launch options of

+cvaradd g_fov 20 +set com_skipIntroVideo 1

ready to go.

Anything else I should add/edit? Been following the thread and I think I'm good to go with these for now.

Not sure what to do about this game, I want it but think I'm going to wait until the issues are sorted, sick of giving devs my money for half arsed games and quite shocked at ID for joining in with the rest of them

Is it an Intel core2 because there does appear to be a compatibility issue with them?
